Marmie had her BABY! He is not eating, how long should I let this go on?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Anybody out there now? Marmie just had her baby! I think it's a little buck, I don't really know, but it is big. Anyway he or it is not eating . I put him up to her teat and put it in his mouth and he nursed for a minute, ( maybe a minute) but let go and then I couldn't get him back on again. She is a first time mom and I am a first time grandma. It has been maybe an hour. When will he eat? What do I do? I removed that black plug thing from her and I got milk from each teat. So I know it is there. Do I need to try and milk her and feed him or should I wait a while? ???????? Let me know SOOON????

Bonnie is your little guy up and moving around? Did Marmie lick him off? And when you say he nursed were the black plugs(What are these for?) still on? Did you dip his navel in Iodine? If he nurse some he's probably Ok as their little tummys don't hold to much this early. Just keep a close eye on the little guy for awhile. In a little while give him another opportunity to nurse.Little Bit Farm

If it is only an hour, leave mom and baby alone. She may be a little nervous. You will be able to tell by the looks of her teats if she has nursed when you get back. Until it reaches going on 12 hours don't panic too much. They are both new, they'll get the hang of it. sometimes us new grandparents panic too soon and intervene too much. Good luck, do keep an eye on it, but give them a little space for awhile. I know it is hard, Jean

I am still waiting for an answer. This was so neat. She ate as normal this morning. But I noticed her trying to go pee and poo and not really doing much. Had to ( absolutely HAD TO ) go to work this morning. Cleaning church, so right in the middle of vacuming the vacume quit. It's a new vacume. Well I said I may as well go home. Went out to check on her and she was haveing hard labor and two little feet and a nose were sticking out. Whoooaaa! Baby!!! So neat. She was a real trooper. This kid is huge! I guess there is just one. The afterbirth stuff is hanging out the back! She is not crying anymore. She is talking so sweetly to her baby. Oh-so-sweet.This whole thing would be great if he would figure out how to eat on his own.

Oh thank you all so much. The black plugs were hers. Grew there I guess. I think someone told me this was a WAX PLUG? Well I couldn't get anything out until I scraped this off. Actually just grabbed it with my nail and pulled.Anyway I put him up to her teat after about half an hour and held it in his mouth. He wanted it and went nuts but dropped it so easy. Now he doesn't seem to be able to find it on his own.As far as the navle cord, I tried to dip it and she had cut bitten too much off, but I washed what was there with iodine. He is real active. I had to shut the door to keep him from walking out. He kept wanting to go outside. Also Annabell wanted to butt him alot. She is getting to be a nasty littlything around other animals.I did get to see her do her fainting thing. She was being ugly to the baby and trying to butt him. I had the towel I wiped him off with and I just popped her with it to get her to leave.I guess it scared her and she just stiffened up and fell over. She got up and left then. Since I shut the door, she won't get in there.

Sometimes you have to squirt a little in their mouth. Once the little one gets some, he'll be just fine. The little guy may choose one side over the other. If you notice that he isn't nursing both sides then you will need to milk out the second side if you are planning on using the milk yourself. Otherwise that side will dry up.Little Bit Farm
