Other benefits of MSM for animals? (Pet Care)

What else, besides arthritis/joint pain, have you folks used MSM for? Specifically, do you think it would work on skin conditions in dogs? I posted a while ago about the husky we took in with a serious case of nose-rot. (It is an immune problem). The vet gave me steroids for him, which helps, but they have side effects. Whenever I let up on the pills, the nose gets bad again. What other alternative methods would you recommend? Vitamin E? He already gets Brewer's Yeast on his food.

from what I have read, MSM is there in raw meats but heat destroys it very quickly. Guess you could give some raw meat

Shannon, try astragalus root to boost his immune system, depending on his weight (50 to 100 pounds two capsules twice a day, or evem three times a day if it is bad). Also, nutritional yeast is far superior as a supplement than brewer's yeast, try my concoction of two parts garlic powder, one part kelp powder, and one part nutritional yeast powder, added to his food with an ounce or less of canola oil (ideally safflower or flaxseed oil, but pricey) added too. Use a tablespoon of the garlic mixture for each feeding, more if he weighs over 75 pounds or so. I don't think the MSM will improve his immune system, although it is possible, I take it daily for joint pain and inflammation ( I have an FM/CFS), the MSM works well for that at 4000 mg. a day, which is a heaping teaspoon of the pure powder form of MSM. Good luck with the husky!
