Russell, congratulations on your Saanen kids! My Saanen is due in late April and I can't wait...I believe the rule with cart wethers is that they can pull up to double their weight...if in doubt I would use two. Hope this helps, enjoy.

I just started milking yesterday. My second doe, Saanen, had a mummy baby and so delivered a month early. Sad, the little one lost was a doe. But Holly is OK, had the vet out yesterday afternoon because she is still huge looking. Vet said no babies in there, I can't believe she was so huge and only 2 tiny babies. Poor Holly is crying looking for her babies. She is a doll, a wonderful milker. I'm thinking of calling my friend who has some registered Alpine does for me and see if one is old enough yet, maybe Holly will take to it.I also started milking my first freshner Alpine doe and she has a wonderful big bag. She did great for her first time. I put her little girl up on the milk stand, and Violet settled right down.
There's a great site for Harness Goats. I'll post it here today. Have fun milking, I love goats milk and milking.
