Last night's tv news had a report that angry citizens met to protest a proposed natural gas-fired power plant a California company named AES wants to built just outside of Calgary. They say the electricity it produces would go to Calfornia while they would be left with the pollution from the plant.

On another front, the hydro dam at Milk River, built originally for irrigation purposes and thus not subject to the usual environmental examinations before being constructed, is now having a power plant (which does require environmental studies) added to it. Because the dam already exists, or course, no further study will be required.
