We have UNEXPECTED SNOW in north central Bama!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I woke up about 2:30 a.m. when the deputy police chief was talking on the police scanner about four to six inches of snow on the highway leading south out of town! (it goes over a little mountain) so I looked out the window here and everything is white on the homestead! So I've been up listening to the scanner because I know I'll need to write about this for the newspaper in the morning! We've had numerous people sliding off the roads everywhere and also several big trees down across major highways!
It will likely all be sludge when the sun comes up but who knows! It's really a mess now!
One of the police officers said it was the worst road conditions he'd seen here since the Blizzard of '93!
This is highly unusual for our area. The weather folks said last night there might be some snow "flurries" in far northeastern Alabama and in Tennessee. I think they missed it by a few miles!

I am about 20 miles north of Birmingham, it is 8:00 and it is still snowing. Schools are closing, businesses are closing. Too bad I work out of my house and for myself. Can't call in sick, huh?Gary in AL

That is really strange! It's warm right up here in Kentucky! A little misty rain thru the sunlight is all. Wow.

I can't even imagine! My sister called this morning (from South Carolina) to say that it was 34 degrees last night and raining. By this morning, the temperature had dropped to 14 degrees (5 degrees with the windchill factor) and it was snowing/sleeting. Bet they wish they were back down here in Florida with me like they were last week!

Gee, for once we're the warm ones -- getting up to 50 today, the first time since last November! Bizarre weather . . .

Lynn called me at work at 4:30 in the morning to tell me we had 2 to 3 inches and Eva Mtn was worse. Told me to be careful getting out of Huntsville and crossing the ridge and in the same breath asked if I remembered to mail my insurance premiums. When she asked that, I asked her if she already had a Latin dance instructor on retainer in Palm Springs. She reminded me that she was talking about my car insurance, not my LIFE insurance :>)

Hi everyone, it's 4 pm in NW FL panhandle and 49 degrees. It's been overcast, COLD and drizzly all day. Wind is picking up a bit. I just started a fire in the vaccumned out fireplace. Oh well, guess spring isn't quite here yet! Hot potato soup for supper. Ya'll stay warm and blessings to ya.

Here I am a little over an hour Northeast of Birmingham..no snow...just monsoon rains for the last twenty-four hours and COLD!!!!Sounds like all the snow fell slightly North and West of us.I am quite happy for the rain, but my backyard looks like flocks of wild geese should land any minute mistaking it for a lake. Exactly where are you other folks in Alabama? We are inbetween Jacksonville and Gadsden.

Well, I take it back. It got very cold by 2:00 and I had to put the goats and babies back in the barn. Boy, the wind was whipping all afternoon. I had to get the outdoor stove going, the wind kept sucking it out as I was trying. The clouds were going from southeast to northwest, opposite of what they usually do. It was raining and coooold. Supposed to be 55 today, we will see.

I lived in Montgomery for 5 years - saw flurries one day, but that was about it. I'm really a midwesterner, and I missed the snow when I lived in AL. Now that I'm back in Kansas, I miss all the trees, and believe it or not, the humidity!
