The simpleset solution is to find someone with an ATI Radeon card - it's built in to the card (mpeg encoding from a video source).

While the ATIs are nice, my personal favorite for this type of work is the Matrox G450Max. Awesome dual-head capability and S-Video inputs.

If you have the BETA player, you can setup an hour or so to do this at my house. I'm in Fenton.

Here's your recording options:

20 minutes = 20 x 60 seconds = 1200 seconds.

Max recording via my PC-VCR software (MJPEG), which can then be converted to smaller MPEGs or streaming media.

704x480(NTSC)@30fps@11:1 compression factor Audio(MB/sec): None=1.758 , Low=1.769, TV=1.844, CD=1.93 20 minutes size (GB): 2.06 2.07 2.16 2.26 704x480(NTSC)@15fps: Audio(MB/sec): None=0.879, Low=0.890, TV=0.965, CD=1.051 20 minutes size (GB): 1.03 1.04 1.13 1.23

As you can see the raw file size of a *tiny* image with no audio is >200 MB.

It should be obvious to everyone why video on the web has had limited success, and is directly dependent upon fat pipes (broadband) to the curb - be that cable, DSL, satellite, or fiber.

I tried compressing a five minute video of my son's ultrasound for the web, and it was barely sufferable at that smallest size, no sound, and higher compression - something only a grandparent would wait and wait and wait and wait.... to see. :) It was a little over 2MB.

I have a Jaz (1GB) cartridge, so if you bring your own cartridge, we can record it onto that. Or I can find a temporary home on the web, upload it, and you can download from there. That way you don't have to sit through yanking it from my DSL upstream.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- I agree. It's a relatively simple process for someone that has a decent ATI all-in-wonder card and a betamax player. If you've got the player you could purchase an ATI card off of Pricewatch.com. Not sure what price range you're looking for though. Good luck!
