Hi,I picked up one of these last week 2nd hand and thought it may come in handy. I once knew a stills photographer who swore by them and had on for each of the 3 bodies he was using.
Do many people in the group use them or are they regarded as a bit of a gimmick?
Cheers
Mark

i have used one and want another - great for hot weather when pockets are limited.

I recently acquired one and find it rather novel. Great for carrying the second lens, although it makes the entire package very heavy with another lens attached.

Hi - could anyone please be a little more specific as to what the 'lens carrier' is? You all make it sound very individual though I'd guess it's probably nothing more than a pouch of some sort - but maybe I'm totally wrong.

Its a half plate that fits onto the bottom of your baseplate and has a lens mount incorporated in it. You can mount an extra lens in the mount and the spare lens is stored, pointing vertically down from the baseplate, and may be used as a sort of handle.I know there is a picture somewhere on the net but I can't find it.

For a look at the lens carrier you can go to www.konermann.net. Click on his link for the Sling and you'll see it in action.

In my opinion, is more what you risk than the helpful it can be. Wile using it we put in risk the lens atached to it, and since the baseplate is sensitive to side knocks, using this accesory is in my opinion dangerous and not so comfortable (I once droped an M3, it hit the floor on one of the corners of the baseplate and it opened).

Mark: I know this is late, but FWIW I recently purchased 1 of these & find it to be very handy, particularly in the summer when, as Mr. Curry-Hyde pointed out, I don't have jacket pockets to spare &/or when using a bag is too much of a pain. Even without a lens attached, I like to use it as a kind of bottom grip because the extra height makes it easier for my left hand to focus the lenses that have focus tabs (still trying to get used to them!). I do worry about the extra strain on the strap lugs, though.
