New Zeeland Miniatures? (Goats)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Yesterday I met a small goat (cute as pie). The owner told my DH it was a New Zealand Miniature (he thinks?). Does any one raise this breed, and if so, what are they good for, besides pets. She was a darling little thing, but I don't think DH will allow any more pets. We already have more than our share. Thanks, Kitty in FL

I'd be willing to bet that this goat has another name! :^)

Only minis I've ever heard of are Pygmies and Nigerian Dwarfs

After pinning down DH & my son, they are now saying they think it may have been a Nigerian Dwarf. Does anyone have any info on that breed? Thanks, Kitty in FL

Kitty--we have nigerian dwarfs. They are very cute. They're a mini dairy goat, actually, and don't get as barrell-y as pygmies. We have one wild gal, who settled enough to be milked, and her babe is a sweetie who's in training to be a pack goat, and LOVES taking walks. They seem to need less hoof-trimming than our Nubians. Love to graze. Contact me if you'd like. Hope you have as much fun as we do with the sweet critters!

Yeah right, Nigeria and New Zealand, I can see how the confusion could have arisen. :-)
