The rocks within the Grand Canyon were formewd millions of years ago through deposition. Each rock is slightly differnt in color depicting its different compositon, and the differences in light intensity throughout Earth's history as it was deposited. The Grand Canyon is made up of several different types of rocks, ranging from Redwall Sandstone to Hermit Shale and Kaibab limestone. The relatively flat surface has been carved by the Colorado River for thousands of years exposing these layered sedimentary rocks, and still continues to do so today.
