Mow'n and think'n. [Christian Talk inclosed]greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
The year was 1958 and the job was mowin the church graveyard. They owned a high wheel weed chopper with a 10 hp Wisconsin engine belted to that big dude. A round, spin'n device in front with 3 "sections" bolted on. It didn't pull itself either! Big, heavy as a dead Baptist preacher and with about 2 acres to mow. Stones every size, shape and state of repair were always a challange too. Snakes were also quite prevelant along with yellow jackets, red wasps and a host of other "nasties" to contend with. It paid $25. for a mow'n and was worth every cent of it. Took ole Jeep and me 2 full, hard days to mow't too. Longer is'n we let the sections hit a stone and sheer'm off. It was several miles from home, no water, no shade and of course, nothin to eat! We didn't stop for anything that wasn't really necessary anyhow. We mow'd it for 2 years with their mower and then bought our own. Much easier to use a little push mower but if you was lucky only one season was all that was in those little dudes.I was think'n about this today as I rode my Troy Bilt suburban, hydro, electric start, 3 blades etc etc etc. My how things have changed. Back then I was young, physically in fine shape and purty. Now, i'm old, beat up, lazy, fat and not as purty!
Normally at my age, about 1:00 on the big time clock, people are start'n to wind down just a bit-look'n forward to retirement. I've already wound down about all I can and still keep breath'n. I am not look'n forward to retirement as I never intend to retire. As long as I can move around some and talk, preach, type--I'll keep telln people about Jesus Christ. He's the ONLY way to the Father. The choice is clear. Receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and spend eternity in heaven with Him. REject Jesus Christ and spend eternity in hell with satan. No other way exists. He's coming back soon for His own. Are you comfortable enough with your "religion" to meet Him and take your chances for eternity? Luke 6:31
