looking for wooden butter molds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have looked and looked for a plunger-type wooden butter mold with a pattern carved into it. I want a half-lb size. All I have been able to find is a much smaller size-only one or two ounces, and they are prohibitively expensive.

Cumberland General Store (800-334-4640) carries them. Wood, 1/2 lb, $19.25, Glass, probably 1/2 lb, $12.90, Aluminum, 1/2 lb, $16.05 and one lb, $18.35. All of these are the push-out type. They also sell wooden 1/2 lb molds which are soaked in cold water for 1/2 hour, filled and then turned over for the butter to fall out.

Went to an auction last sat. they sold two 1lb. molds & two 1/2 lb. molds the least one went for was thirty-two dollars. They also sold an old coffee can for $250.00. Don

My goodness, Don. It about makes me want to learn how to make them, and sell them on-line... betcha there could be a good income in it, too.

Sure might be an extra source of income, Since I for one am scouting the antique stores and flea markets. I refuse to pay $65.00 plus. The mold (new or old) would do fine. Now, if only I could find a bit of non-government regulated actual cow's milk to churn into butter. That was good stuff!

When looking for fresh milk, try the Amish, if you have them in your area. That's where I get mine from....
