Are there any wireless providers in Ireland those offer wireless access in free band 2.4GHz? I cannot find them in Dublin. In our country (CZ) where phone fees are high too there are many (small and big) ISPs those offer internet access in 2.4GHz band. Very popular are products based on Breeznet, Lucent and IEEE803.11. They offer typically 64kbps "wireless leased line" and "64kbps wireless shared line", customers pay for transfered data in many cases. It is cheap solution for "leased lines" and I made very good experience with it in the past. This solution is very popular in our country now. I noticed that Chorus will be here soon (it is still not in my area) and it is somethink different. When there is a "cheap" pernament wireless connection to the internet, you can think about "one-way" satelite connection too. Why I cannot find any ISP that has 2.4GHz access point in Ireland? It seems to me that Ireland is again waiting for some Patric that will put his antena to the ground and after that all expensive ISP will leave country...

chorus is here in limerick don't know about anywhere else i am curently a satisfied customer using chorus for less than a month, that could change tho. 512k always on, with a tweak i get 120kbps download and a ping to uk servers of around 50 for games. my 2 cents.

Hi Petr,

There are currently no isps in ireland offering service in the ism frequency bands. These bands are only used in the enterprise market for indoor lan and outdoor building to building links.

The web site odtr.ie will give you an insight into what is allow under ISM (2.4-2.48Ghz).

There are areas in ireland that have fixed wireless local loop in the higher frequency bands. Companies such as Chorus,Eircom and Esat.These are typically in the major urban centers (Dublin,Cork and Limerick).

The office of the Director for Telecomunnications Regulation is also looking at the possibility of using the ISM frequency band for internet access in remote areas.....this could take up to a year.

You Guys think you may have it bad but I live in Donegal a beautiful part of Ireland but probably to remote for any of our city slicker friends in the ODTR.IE or Eircom Esat etc....

ADSL will be available in Dublin and some other cities fairly soon and at a Disgraceful price. But the will never bother to upgrade the local loop, I spoke to the Eircom Engineers at my local loop and he said that the have the cabling to install the service, but are waiting on head office to give the go ahead, we if they experienced the support hassles I had to just get a phone installed it could be a long wait.

I heard in germany that they protested by not using the phone or internet for a day and it forced their governing body to cut the prices to €20 roughly.

Maybe it is somthing to consider doing in Ireland as prices must fall.

Ireland is behind in a lot of things not least internet services and they really need to catch up big style. The prices are WAY too high as well and something really needs to be done...
