Concrete, hamburger and Mr. Turtle. [Christian Material]greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Well, I haven't found old Mr Turtle but am sure he's alright. I was look'n around the yard today and was reminded that I had 50 pieces of concrete that I need not ignore any longer. 48 were pier foundations for an old doublewide mobile home that we used to own. Another is the landing for front steps and the last is a rather large pad for an old ADM 11' Satellite dish. It's about 7 ft square and about 8" deep with 3 post holes in the bottom. A huge problem but I've been ponderin it for several years. I believe I've come up with the solution. In a couple days I'll try it. Dig a hole on the west side big enough for my floor jack. Jack it up about a foot. Loop my logchain around the west side and lay the chain towards the east. Put an old auto rim with the chain run over it. Hook the old chev 4wheel pull on that raskel and gently roll it over onto a homemade sled. Oh BTW, the sled is an old Chevy Blazer hood. Orta work just fine-it's good for haul'n crete blocks etc.Another absolutely beautiful day today. Cool and a slight breeze. Very refresh'n and calm. Made a quick run over to ole jeeps house to deliver some tools to'm. While there he drug out a couple chairs. Well, the quick trip turned to all afternoon of visit'n and shoot'n starlings. Hunger finally forced me home to HAMBURGER! It's much better if'n it's cooked and really better than SPAM!
I'm now dry and fix'n to go build some Iced TEa! Lil Dumplin is somewhere in Southern Illinois and will be in Tucky tomorrow. Hope I haven't put ya'll to sleep with this exciting llife that ole calvin and I share but---zzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Jesus is on the verge of returning for His own. Where will you be when the "dead in Christ" are raised from those graves? Matt.24:44

Hoot if you don't find that turtle here pretty quick I'd be happy to send you a couple hundred that are populating the lake out front. It was a beautiful day down here and the turtles was sittin on some logs and ol tires(put there for catfish to spawn in). I drove in the front gate and the whole shore line was just a glitterin in the sun....wet turtles! I'm ashamed to admit that I ran out of iced T at dinner tonight! I've only fixed 3 gallons of it today! We drank a lot of it sitting on the front porch watching the mud martins feed their younguns. It don't matter how often you tear down the nest while they are building it or what all you do to try and block them they are just bound and determined to build a nest in the 2 corners of my front porch down here every year. I wouldn't mind so much but they make an aweful mess and chase the humming birds away. The martins had a rare treat today though.......we're baling hay all around the house here so the martins were busy catching bugs that the sickle threw up. I'm looking forward to Jesus coming back but I sure do appreciate the sights while I'm a waitin! He creates a masterpiece every evening with the sunset....no artist could come close. Young critters are way more entertaining than any TV could be....Jesus knew that and thats why he created them :o). It is so wonderful what the good Lord provided for out enjoyment and enrichment. God bless you all!

Er, Hoot, did you have anything to say?

Hoot, Thanks for the concrete moving idea! Sounds like you and I have some of the same sort of landscaping.About 10 yrs. ago we tore down a house to put in a manufactured home, and ended up with a lot of leftover concrete from landings from steps, etc. Ended up piling it all up, and the sheep play on it which works well as a hoof trimmer, but I have seen smaller hoof trimmers. I finally decided awhile back I wanted to move it to a couple different places where I could put it to better use (and disguise it a little better) but didn't exactly want to go through the work of moving it the way it was done last time. Your idea sounds much easier!

WARNING!!! CHRISTIAN MATERIAL ENCLOSED. DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOUR OFFENDED BY IT!Movin the cret pad----SUCCESS! It didn't work as I had envisioned or planned--- but its gone just the same. I did get it raised up with the floor jack and managed to stack 2 concrete blocks under it. In attempting to pull it over ontop of a skid or drag---it balked! With a big log chain looped over one end we hooked it onto the back bumper of the old chevy 4wheel pull. In low lock, I started pullin. It moved! In fact it moved quiet nicely so--away I went. Pulled the raskel about a half quarter mile to a gully that I'm fill'nup with bricks, crete blocks etc. Got that dude over the center and the chain came off. I couldnt've planned it any better! Got one more smaller one to move today and it's shouldn't be nearly as bad. Gonna have to fix that left axle u-joint one of these days. Talk about makin noise!!!
Treat your neighbors kindly. Tell'm about Jesus Christ comin soon-- that is if you haven't already done so. Matt.24:44
