I'm a goat grandma... finally!!! (GOATS)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
She's here! After our horrible start with Buttercup's stillborn kid last week, Rosa, my faded red Angora doe, delivered a beautiful black doeling this morning about 5:15. She's healthy, up, nursing, and very vociferous! I got to be present for the event and this time it went like the books said... to the letter. What a little beauty... solid black with a big white spot on her forehead and white speckled ears! She'll be silver in a few months. Just wanted to share this with my 'extended' Countryside family... I can't stop grinning. Two more to go within the next week. dh in nm

Isn't it great when things go well and you get to see the miracles?? Congratulations, the fun has just begun. We literally spend hours watching our goat kids frolic and clown. Be sure and put some "playground equipment" around. My husband made them from old pallet wood and they spend many happy moments jumping onto and off of them in a huge variation of "tricks". Enjoy....

Congrats to you, Debra!! I've been a "goat Gramma" every year now for almost 20 yrs. and the kids never fail to fascinate me (or make me laugh!). I know you'll enjoy all of them.

Thanks all. Here's an update: Desdemona gave birth to a 'blue' buck.. he'll be white with dark skin, lots of tight little curls all over. Then Magnolia surprised me with twins, a doe & a buck, both blinding white, covered in ringlets, both healthy and full sized. These are the first kids for my brown buck. So, here I am, trying to raise colored Angoras, and my only true colored one is the first doeling, she's an agouti black. The others are white, but they'll all carry a color gene (that's fine with me, white mohair always sells!). I can't quit smiling; they are all just the cutest, sweetest little angel-things I've ever seen! I'm gushing. Someone here at work called me a "Nanny Granny"! dh in nm
