FTBn compatibility with Canon Booster (hot shoe size?)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread |
Hey, (sorry for photo.net readers who may have seen this already)I have a question about the size of the FTb-n (new version) and its compatibility (or lack thereof) with the Canon Booster low-light meter. I bought this camera hoping it would work with the meter booster, as I'm interested in low-light photography. Anyway, I've tried and tried to get the thing attached, but it seems not to fit. It looks like the reason is that the hot shoe on my ftbn is too narrow. I tried attaching the booster to an older FX camera's accessory slot, and it fit.
The size on my ftbn's slot, from the two tips of the metal hooks is 12.5-13 mm, or around half of an inch. On the FX, it's 14mm, or 1 and 1/8 inches.
My question is, does anyone know whether the booster is not supposed to work with an FTBn, or if the FTBn is supposed to have a different hot shoe size than the FTB? It's kind of aggrivating, this booster thing fits perfectly on the camera that doesn't work with it, and not on the one that I had hoped it would work with!

You're not alone. I have a booster that I got with a Pellix that also doesn't fit the FTB. I've always wondered why. Perhaps something to do with the CAT flash contacts on the FTB. I believe I tried out the booster and it worked electrically. One thing I wanted to try is a hotshoe adapter interposed between the booster and the body to hold it in place.Cheers,

You must have the Booster for the FT & Pellix. This has a larger locking swivel than the later model. The easy way to tell the difference is that the side with the switch on it is marked F. P. on the earlier unit and on the later one it is marked Fb. P. F. The first booster does not work with the FTBn and the second one does. I had the same problem with mine and had to return it to the seller.Vladimir
