Bicycle orienteering (sort of) coming up soon.

This event sounds like some sort of bike orienteering. From the KC Adventure Racing egroup:

After the success of last year's event and due to popular demand - its back again!

You are invited to the Second Annual "Leave from the Prairie Life Parking Lot - Memorial Day Ride" This year it will be a slightly different format... Bike Scavenger Hunt!

I am going to set up Check Points throughout Johnson County. Your mission will be to ride to as many of them as possible within 3h 30mins. At each there will be a question to be answered such as, "What is the name on the mailbox at...?" You will need to navigate your way around and organize yourself so you don't go overtime. There will be "Special Tasks" also, so be prepared.

The "winners" will be those who visit the most CP's with the least amount of mileage and arrive back before the cut off. It will take cunning, skill, fitness and a desire to have some fun. All abilities are welcome

We'll have separate mountain and road bike divisions. Where: Parking Lot of PLC (103rd & Barkley)

What: 3 1/2 hour cut off (or as far you want) through the streets of Jo Co. You can ride as an individual but I am suggesting you pair up in order to make it more fun. After the finish you can lounge by the pool.

Who: You and anyone else you would like to invite, the more the merrier.

What you must have in your team: Pen or Pencil Bike Odometer Desire to ride hard and have fun! (I suggest you bring a JoCo street map too)

Remember this is not an official event. There is no entry fee, no insurance etc. so there won't be any t-shirts or prizes either. Just come out and ride.

Please forward this message to anyone you like. Contact me if you think you will be coming or if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Interesting. I wonder how this will be scored, that is, how the number of controls will be combined with the low mileage. (Not sure that I see minimizing mileage as that great a virtue, as opposed to accomplishing a lot in terms of getting to more controls, but whatever.)
