Out of curiosity, I got a brand new 35mm Summilux-M ASPH lens and I dont like the feel of the aperture ring. You can move it slightly from "top to bottom" (Consider that you turn the ring from L/R or R/L to set the aperture, top to bottom would be toward to front element/ back element). The 3 screws seems to be properly tight (I tried with a "Jewel" screwdriver) but it doesn't change anything. Do they all feel that way or mine would need a little adjustment?

Sorry to say that seems to be the norm in the current lens. I have not handled one that doesn't have play in the ring...so much for QC. They still assist in our making good images.

My new 35mm Summilux ASPH has the same front-to-back play in the aperture ring. It also has a tendency to squeak when changing aperture. While the squeaking isn't doing any harm it is a bit irritating - does anyone know if it is safe to put a spot of lubricant in there?

I wouldn´t recomend any lubrication, it could get to the diphragm blades or even worst to lenses surface.Try with an O-ring around it, as a shock absorber.
