I have a satin finish baby grand, and when fingerprints are left on it, they live a mark that's pretty hard to remove. The dealer told us what to use to remove them, but I can't remember what it was!! Can someone please help? I'd like to know because they don't look so good. Thanks ~

A sponge dampened (not soaking wet) with cool water, rubbing always in the direction of the grain, is what is recommended by Yamaha for their satin finished instruments. I have found that it also works on non-yamaha, non-satin.

Steinway give you a chamois leather which removes finger marks used dry. I think they meant it for cleaning keys with. A tiny bit of moisture (breathe on the piano) can help stubborn fingermarks. Sorry, I only know about glossy pianos.

A piano technician (an Englishman whose father and grandfather were also piano technicians) told me to whisk soap suds from a bit of water and a bit of dish washing liguid and us the suds with and old t- shirt material to clean the surface of the satin finish piano. It works wonders, and my piano has kept its satin finish since the first time I used this cleaning method twenty years ago.
