What type of lens is a CZ series 1c 1:4.5 f25cm.Serial No.555343? It must be pre war and is uncoated.

James:

I believe that the 1c series refers to a Zeiss Tessar 1c. The lens is composed of four elements in three groups and has an angle of view of 55 degrees. This yields an image circle of 300mm at f22. This should cover 4x5 and 5x7 but fall short of 8x10. The serial number you posted puts the age of the lens at about 1922-23, provided that my serial number list is correct. Hope this h

James,

It is a Tessar ser. 1c lens. If Andrew says it will cover 8x10, then it will. B&L has a similar vintage lens with a focal length at 255 mm.
