pictures of Ms and Ms-1 Mikados 4532, 4533, 6299, 6300, 6301greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread |
I would like to know if anyone out there had photographs of any Memphis Division steam locomotives or the shops especially 4532, 4533, 6299, 6300, 6301 from 1931-45. If not where can I find them?

I have photographs of Ms-1 #6300 and 6301. I purchased a black and white 8x10 photo of #6301 taken at Sheffield, Alabama on 6-2-1940 from Frank Ardrey, 1329 Larry Lane, Birmingham AL 35213. I also obtained from him a second photo of a 6300-class Mikado crossing the Tennessee River bridge at Loudon and dated 9/1938. Mr. Ardrey had an extremely extensive collection of Southern Railway steam and early diesel b/w photos for sale some years ago. I don't know if he is still active. If not, his son Carl works for the Norfolk Southern railway in Birmingham and may be able to help.I also have a color print of #6300 taken at Sheffield AL in April of 1942. I made the print from a color slide that was offered as part of a set -- I'm not sure who the seller was.

Several years ago Frank stopped selling prints from his collection. I saw him around a year ago and he told me that he had sold his collection to Dave Salter. Mr. Salter was another one of those photographers from the late steam era. I don't think he sells prints, but he might cooperate with someone if they need pictures for an article.
