28/ 2 M Summicron; any coments?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Since knowing of it´s launching, it has been a dream to my eyes, even more than a 35/1.4 asph; does any one of you have used this lens, and could give us some coments as well as pictures, if posible, some wide open, hope I´m not asking too much, I know it is not a popular lens yet.Thank´s

I have had the 28/2.0asph for a few months now and I am in love with this lens. Please excuse me for not being able to give a blow-by-blow analysis of the lens, but when I look at the 8x10 prints it blows me away with its resolution. Here are some shots at wide open:http://www.streetphoto.net/images/im14.jpg http://www.streetphoto.net/images/im15.jpg
And from my Photo A Week (PAW) this week both are with the 28/2.0:

I haven't shot a lot with mine yet, but what I have done has left me very impressed indeed. It's everything you could ask for in a modern Leica lens. Wide open I think it's better than the 35/2.0 ASPH I had. To get this kind of performance out of a 28/2.0 lens is just amazing. Add in the fact that it's the same size as the Elmarit, and it's a home-run lens IMO.

How does it compare with the 28/2.8 M Elmarit?

Steve; thank´s very much for showing your work, it was for me interesting in two ways, by the image itself, and to see the quality of this lens, the same to your coments Paul, thank you very much, I just have a question, in the pictures you show us those wide open at nigth seem to have a high contrast, but those in dayligth (like this gay march) look low contrast, can you explain this, is it the kind of printing you did or it is actualy the lens performace.

In terms of a comparison to the 28 Elmarit, as far as I can tell it's identical.Obligatory joke: except at f/2.0 of course :-)

r watson,I can not really explain the difference in contrast between the wide open at night and 5.6 daytime except maybe different circumstances and the difference between my scans. Everybody knows that I am not real good at scanning, although the scans look identical to the 8x10 prints I scanned from minus the loss of quality you get when looking at them on the web.
Still comparing the 28/2.0 with my other Leica lenses, it is a very nice lens.

Thanks Steve for make things clear; I don´t see nothing to complain about in your scaning work, although I´m not an expert neather; what I´m sure is that your pictures gave me the idea of the wide open quality of this lens, specialy in the flare range, wish I could have seen some close up images, any way I´ll keep close to your weekly pictures, thanks indeed fellows and the best of ligth to you all.
