Mulberry Coffee CakeBatter
2 Cups all purpose flour 1/4 Cup sugar 2 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder 3/4 Teaspoon salt 1/4 Cup shortening 3/4 Cup milk 1 Egg 2 Cups fresh or frozen mulberries (or blueberries)
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 9 or 10 inch pan. Beat all ingredients except the mulberries for 30 seconds. Sprinkle enough flour over the berries to coat them - this will keep them from clumping together in the batter. Carefully stir in the mulberries.Topping (May be doubled if you like more)
Mix until crumbly:
1/4 Cup sugar 1/6 Cup of flour 1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 Stick of butter, softened
Sprinkle evenly over batter and bake 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Allow to cool just slightly and drizzle with glaze.Glaze
1/2 Cup powdered sugar 1/4 Teaspoon vanilla 1 1/2 to 2 Teaspoon hot water Serve warm.

Hi, I posted the same question a few weeks ago. From the responses I received, heres what we ended up making. It was delicious!Mulberry Pie
3-4 cups Fresh Mulberries 1 cup Sugar 2 tablespoons Flour 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice 1/8 teaspoon Salt 1 recipe Plain Pastry 1 tablespoon Butter
Combine berries, sugar, flour, lemon juice and salt. Line piepan with pastry, add filling, dot with butter and cover with top crust. Bake in very hot oven (450 degrees F) for 10 minutes; reduce temperature to moderate (350 degrees F) and bake 25 to 30 minutes longer. Makes one (9 inch) pie.
