well i have found out that what does not matter as much as getting rid of the problem. If you catch any problem soon enought you can abort the problem. I have found that this works well for fungus and bacteria problems. Most people reccomend pulling out plants. But here goes I take a gallon jug i put in 2 to 3 tablespoon of bleach and 1/2 cup of baby shampoo dollar store brand 1/2 cup of listerene dollar store brand fill the rest with water. I fill my sprayer and every morning spray the bottom of my tomato plants. if badly effected remove leaves and stems do not touch anyother plant bacteria and fungus spread easily. if it is not this problem cant hurt you will have clean plant haha. also check early for bugs!!!!its always one or the other causing havic on everyones tomatoes. Good luck!!

Just this evening I visited the farm of one of the leading organic vegetable growers here in New Hampshire. The bottom 4" or so of every one of this tomato plants is bare naked. He picks off all foliage from the bottom of the stem to prevent ground contact and associated disease. I'm going out to pick all the low foliage of all my tomatoes first thing in the morning.
