Anybody else having trouble with procrastinating in hot weathergreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Is anybody having a hard time doing things outside/inside in hot weather. Here in Michigan we have had no rain and alot of hot humid days lately, and i just can't seem to get it going. When its 50 or 60 or even low 70's I am up and at them like a bunch of fly's but when them 80's and 90's come thats it. I went out yesterday and worked 15 minutes and said thats enough. I must have polar bear blood in me or something.

Yes, we tend to do our outdoor business in the early AM and again after supper. Hottest part of the day is best for napping. I should be napping now.....

I have absolutely no trouble with procrastinating in hot weather (today it hit 102). If I do say so myself, I'm quite good at it. Of course I have years of experience as a heat watcher. Wouldn't expect you younger folk to be able to attain my level of inactivity.

I practice procrastination as an art and science. When it is this hot just keeping my eyes open is a project. Isn't Michigan grand Tom??? Last week I was freezing in the morning doing chores now just picking peas drives me into heat prostration.

So, Sunday, a perfectly nice but rather hottish day, I fed the goats and came right in and drank my coffee, read, napped, ate, read, watched PBS all afternoon, napped, craned myself outta bed to feed the evening meal... all the while there are 64 goat feet needing to be trimmed, dogs to be played with, corrals to be cleaned. Sigh. But, there are days, and then there are days.. Some days, you just need to do that. Heat is a great excuse, and out here, we have no humidity to speak of like you in Michigan, but the sun is a killer. Manana is good enough for me. dh in nm

Oh boy do I know what you mean. I will be so glad to leave Florida! Talk about hot and humid. We have 90+ degree temps with 89-98% humidity every single day for 6 months. I keep wondering why they have a weather forcast everday. About May just put up one..."hot, humid, chance of rain"! We have only been getting down in the 80's at night. We are moving in 2 weeks to our new homestead in the Virginia mountains. Although it is hot and humid there too this time of year there is still a breeze and it gets down in the 50's at night. In Flordia you just never get a break from it. I know there are lots of homesteaders in Northern Florida...I just can't figure out how they do it! God bless them!

I have really good lights outside and tend to do all my chores very late. During the heat of the summer I actually feel pretty good once I get outside and working, though I dread it initially. I had to trim feet and worm today getting ready to put some does in with the buck tommorrow, also had to clean all the waters and fix a gate, I was drenched, its so humid here that it might just as well be raining, but I do feel wonderful after I get everything done. I was a candidate for president of our chapter of the procrastination society, but the membership put the vote off again... and again...and again.... :>)

Hi,,I am so glad to know I am not alone with this procrastination bit,,,I almost thought I was being a bit lazy,,,but when it is sooo hot,,I just don't want to work much,,,so it waits and waits,,However,,I do plan ahead to work early in mornings on things that HAVE to be done. It makes a person feel much satisfaction on a job accomplished.,,,We had a break today here in Western MT,,cooled off and some people were wearing sweat shirts and sweaters...Hope our summer isn't over,,,Take care ,,,,

yes yes yes! Why else would I be at the computer at 8:15 a.m.? I usually have all the animals fed and watered and my day well underway by now but I had to send something to the newspaper where I work and I've been procrastinating ever since! It is going to be HOT HOT HOT again here in north Alabama and the problem is we're going to have high humidity here again today too. We still haven't used our central air conditioning unit (I think it needs freon anyway and we can't afford the huge bills) so we just have a lot of fans going and take a lot of showers!

Well, Tom, I'm just another Michigander complaining about the heat and humidity. And I thought it was just me gettin' older! Last year I had no trouble at all. When I got hot I would just come in, wash the face and neck, sit down with a jug of water in front of the fan and feel refreshed in a few minutes and go out and start all over again. Not this year. It's been a real bummer. My get up and go got up and went. The favorite saying in our house currently is "Is it winter yet?" Looks like I'm definitely a winter person.

Just saw the noon news out of Jefferson City MO where the heat index for central MO today is forecast to be 100o-105o but at noon the index for Columbia was already 107o. I hate to think what it will be between 3 and 4 this afternoon. You better bet I'm a procrastinator. If it doesn't get done very early, or very late, it just doesn't get done until fall or the next cool spell.

I like to call it Siesta because I became familiar with the routine while in Spain, and know many hotter climates partake. Hot afternoons are definately for napping! I'd love to start a nationwide trend so people don't call or knock during nap time:) It's not procrastination if you set a cool timeslot for it!
