We adopted a young cat a couple of months ago at the local Farmer's Coop. The first day at home it tried to stalk our brand new chicks in their wire cage. I thought I broke it of this habit at that time.

Do yall know of anyway (besides the obvious, which hubby tried this weekend...) to break a cat from hunting chickens? She can't seem to catch the big ones or the grown ducks, but we have about 40 chicks that are only about 1/4 grown and we saw her snag one from the air this weekend.

Do you have a rooster? I don't, but I've heard a good rooster will do a good job of protecting his ladies. Maybe an agressive rooster would teach the cat a lesson. Mine are in a coop and run so my cats can only look with longing through the chicken wire. Dog finally has stopped barking nonstop at them. Not a smart dog-barks nonstop at anything although he's too old to do much of that these days.....

water gun,,or a hose,, spray the cat EVRYTIME it starts stalking the chciks,, it'll soon stop,, or wioll wait till your not around,,worth a shot. Also could try training it on mice, chipmucks, ect,, catch them and play with the cats with it. I used wounded chipmunks,, now my cats go after them ALL the time. They leave my birds alone. But hide near the coop,,waiting for chipmunks and mice
