SQL DBA skills?greenspun.com : LUSENET : SQL Server Database Administration : One Thread |
Hi all, I have been working with Microsoft SMS for about 5 years now, which runs on SQL 7.0. During that time I have installed many SQL servers and configured for performance, as well as managed backups and logs etc for the server. I have written fairly complex ISQL queries to extract various data for reporting purposes, and created databases and SQL procedures for other clients (originally in access, moved to SQL/). I am thinking of changing career slightly to focus on SQL and wondered if I have the sufficient experience to market myself as a DBA? If not, what do I need to learn to do this? Thanks Toby

Toby,Yes, what you are doing qualifies as SQL Server Database Administration.
Other experiences that many potential employers/clients are looking for are creating stored procedures and triggers, replicating databases, performance tuning and optimization, migrating from one version of SQL Server to another, and creating and managing a data warehouse.
You can also get more hints by looking over the SQL Server job/contract offers on this SQL Server Database Administration forum.
Good Luck,
Eric
