Lucinda's waiting.greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH Plus One : One Thread |
According to Chris, Lucinda will be on Leno tonight. (I was hoping she'd be on my back steps, but we can't have everything.)Who's gonna watch?
What do you think she'll sing? Or wear? Lord, please let her wear a hat...

Since she played in L.A. on Monday night, that would make sense. Allison, if you're lucky she'll wear her white firey pants.Actually, she's waiting in my car, but that's neither here nor there.

She better do Essence, or I will reach thrugh the TV and rip Jay Leno's chin off his snarky-looking face.

I better remember not to get too drunk on sangria when I go out for tapas tonight. I'll hate myself if I miss it.

I will so be watching. I passed up a copy of Essence for $9.99 Canadian this weekend. Am I kicking myself? Yes.
-- Anonymous, August 01, 2001
So, what did you think?I am VERY happy she did Essence but I have a sneaking suspicion she shortened it. I haven't had a chance to go back and listen to the CD, but I think she chopped a couple of the choruses in half.
Which seems a little wierd to me, considering she left 'fuck' in.
"OK, Jay, I shorten the song, but only if I can still say 'fuck'. Deal?"
But she was still great.

She's such a badass sexy middle-aged lady. I hope when I'm fifty I'll have the, er, ovaries to wear raccoonily heavy eyeliner with glitter underneath, and black leather head to toe. I'm getting that album this weekend, and finally a copy of Sweet Old World on CD, because my tape has totally given out.

She looked hot (but no hat?! The dejection!) but I didn't think she sounded as good as usual.
I sort of wish she had done another song. I know that's the title track and everything, so she had to do it.
And I wanted him to interview her, and ask her what she thought about that "best songwriter in the world" thing. I bet you all ten dollars she would have said something like "Well, you know... Willie's still alive..."

I am not sure it was really worth sitting through that scary Irish toothless pub owner and Laurence Fishburne's fiancee's floppy nipples.Oh, who am I kidding. Lucinda is always worth it.
-- Anonymous, August 02, 2001
She did look hot. Chris, I think she sang the whole song, but I could be wrong. And I was mad that Jay got her up there to talk, and then was like, "Okay, good night, everybody!"My favorite quote from Master V on the performance: "Man, her guitarist sure can sing harmony like a woman. I like that in a man."
-- Anonymous, August 02, 2001
Now see, I would rather hear some Man Harmonies myself, a la The Damn Millionaires, but that may just be a matter of personal taste.
I sort of dissed the back-up singing. I thought the guy sounded slightly like ass.

Speaking of Willie: Al, you need to get your song out there. It rocks.

Thanks very much, oh ye that has been tortured at the Chao House with the disembodied sound of my voice. See? Even when I'm not there, I'm there.
I think, by far, my fave of all songs on Essence is Bus to Baton Rouge. It's really impossible to pick a favorite, actually, but I love that song.
-- Anonymous, August 02, 2001
Yes, picking a favorite is too hard. But if pressed, I think (today) I'd say "Envy the Wind."
-- Anonymous, August 02, 2001
See? It's impossible. I Envy the Wind will rank up there among my favorite songs ever, by anybody
-- Anonymous, August 02, 2001
Today I pick "Blue." Or "Lonely Girls." Or- this is too, too hard, y'all.

She's playing on Wednesday in the ATL. Who's going?
-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001
She's playing tomorrow night in B'ham. Thinking about running over there. Because I'm craaaazy. Actually, I probably won't. When AB and I saw her that time in Dallas on a Tuesday night, she didn't start until 11 pm. I could have had cross words with her. We were very tired.

Oh, man, Al. I wish we could both go!I miss Lucinda. In my bed.
-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001
Can I just say in all my Essence-lovin' since it came out, I almost forgot what a great album "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" is? Because it is genius.

Lucinda! Columbus, Ohio! November 30!
-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001
Oh y'all, she was soo good. She did 2 encores and dedicated "2 Kool 2 Be 4Gotten" to George Harrison. She went from "Essence" to "Get Right With God" and made a joke about going from sex to God.
I love her.

I just heard a Lucinda song I'd never heard before, called "Here in California." It is so damn good, I can't even tell you.
It's a Kate Wolf song she recorded on a Kate Wolf tribute album. Steal it now from your own Napster replacement.
You heard it here firs

FIRST.Man, I hate IE.

Lucinda tonight, y'all! So excited I don't care that I have an unstarted 12 page paper and 20 more pages of my script also due tomorrow.

Y'all, I think the only 2 songs from Essence she played were Essence and Get Right With God. I think. But she was so amazing. The unaccompanied version of Passionate Kisses she did was so awesome. At one point, some jackass yelled "Show some f***ing intensity"- I was horrified. Lucinda just laughed and said "Show some intensity??? Are you KIDDING me?"
It was, however, weird to see her with someone holding your hand throughout. In some ways she's better when you can really relate. If that makes sense.
