So I'm in the mood for fun mixed drinks tonight. Actually, about once a month. I need recipes/suggestions. I don't like beer or wine (I know, I know, I'm a Philistine, shoot me), I don't like Coke or Pepsi as mixers. I love me some Southern Comfort, some Jack if he's mixed with something else, some Ameretto, some Chambord, basically anything that isn't beer or wine or ass. I don't love me some ass!

Dazzle me! Here's one I got from 3Way

1 part Southern Comfort 1 part Amaretto 2 parts OJ 2 parts Pineapple Juice (original was 1 part) splash of grenadine

This here's my topic. Do you like martinis? I have the recipe for the best cosmopolitan you ever tasted, and also for chocolate martinis.

Southern Comfort and Sprite--you can't go wrong.

Stoli Vanil and orange juice, Stoli Vanil and coke, Stoli Vanil (and this is my new favorite) and strawberry Welch's. Stoli Vanil and anything, really.

If you like margaritas, check out that recipe in the "hey, good lookin'..." thread from Sophie. Caipirinhas. Mmmm.

I'll think of more.

You take a glass, fill halfway with vodka, and halfway with Gatorade... Joking, of course.

I'm an Ameretto Sour girl myself, but I'd love the cosmopolitan recipe.

Oh, and if anyone has a recipe for "Marga-tinis" I'd love to try that too.

Oh, I got one, Smuckers Apple Shnapps, and Smuckers Watermelon Shnapps, over ice. Tastes like a Jolly Rancher.

Ooo! Ricky Martinis! My friend Sabina makes them and they are delicious & deadly. It's basically mango juice, a bit of lemon, and vodka. Shake over ice & serve straight-up. Amazing.

AB, please please send me the Cosmopolitan recipe...I had the best one ever in a Casino in Atlantic City and I just can't seem to match it. I'll give yours a try and let you know how it stands up.

*Dreamily awaiting a good Cosmopolitan*

Look, the Stoli Vanil cannot be beaten. It is the nectar of the Gods. Mix it with anything. Don't try to go on the cheap and get Smirnoff. That stuff isn't any good. Stoli Vanil. Coke. First quality.

I don't like the real martinis with the gin and vermouth. I do like the new trendy martinis like the sour apple one that is all the rage right now.

The only cosmopolitan I ever tried was almost 100% alcohol, they just sort of waved the glass at the cranberry juice bottle so I couldn't stomach it. I need my alcohol to taste like anything but alcohol.

Stoli Vanila sounds intriguing though. I'm thinking Stoli Vanila and this really good iced cappuchino in a can they have at Trader Joe's.

More! More!

Captain Morgan's and Hawaiian Punch is very, very tasty.

All right, kids, here's the cosmopolitan recipe. It's from Trio's in Monroe, a restaurant/bar built into the side of the Texaco. What? It has the best cosmopolitans ever, I swear.

Cosmopolitans, the Trio's Way:

2oz. citrus-flavored vodka (I use Stoli, but then, I'm their whore.)

1 1/2 oz. cranberry juice (I usually add a little bit more, so it's pinker and prettier and doesn't burn out your nose hairs.)

3/4 oz. triple sec

Shake with ice and pour into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with twist of lemon or lime.

YUM!

Those pre-mixed Snowslides are my new downfall on the road to skinniness. Blended. Homina homina homina.

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2001

There is no sweeter sound than ice tinkling against a good highball glass filled with a good gin and tonic, double lime.

-- Anonymous, August 04, 2001

Jumping on the Stoli Vanil bandwagon - I tried it with plain ol' orange juice, having heard it would be Dreamsicle-y. It was Dream- SUCK-ley. But...

When you use the orange / pineapple juice combo from Dole... THAT is how to Get One's Drink On, I'll tellyouwhut.

Mmm, a good gin and tonic. My other new fave is a sunkist Martini- vodka, splash of OJ, and champagne. mmmm.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

cosmopolitan: 2 oz. Monopolowa Vodka 1 oz. Grand Mariner 3 oz. Cranberry juice 1/2 oz. real lime juice.

ice, shaker, pour. yum

I really haven't an answer, but I would like a good receipe for schnapps, if anyone has one.

Belvidere vodka is the best for a martini I have ever had. It's Polish made and refined and filtered 4-5 times. One can drink straight chilled so it also makes the best cosmopolitan.

2 parts Vodka 1 part triple sec 1 part cranberry juice (use the white cranberry if you can) a little squeese of fresh lime juice Shake in martini shaker and pour into a chilled martini glass

ENJOY!!

Ok look, we're in college so we go as cheap as possible, but it's good...go to the grocery store and buy a package of Kool-aid slushy and add some vodka...it's simple, it's cheap, and it's damn good. Have fun kids!!!

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

Y'all know that you totally have me addicted to Stoli Vanil & Coke now, right?

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

I, too, have been drinking the SV&C as though I needed the extra poundage. It just isn't the same with Diet Coke, either.

And that koolaid and vodka mixture? Just fine, but don't try it with tequila. That's just nasty.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

I, too tried the Diet Coke and SV combination and it truly was not the same. Even worse, I just decided to stop at Trader Joe's on my way home and get some iced cappucinno for a mixer with SV for the weekend...talk about calories!

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

Well, Al Lowe certainly likes the Vanil with Diet Coke. I know because I still have a case of it in my garage from when she lived in Darras.

I've been off the Stoli lately, though, and on the Rich & Rare. Eight dollars. Canadian whiskey. Cheap, imported (heh), and delicious with water.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

delicious with water

always the mark of a fine vintage

-- Anonymous, March 10, 2002

Have I mentioned yet how well the SV goes with cream soda? It's actually lighter than the SV + Coke.

Now, hear me out -- you have to love you a sweet drink, because this bad boy is like candy. In fact, it should be called Candy. But, it isn't as sweet as the disgusting Captain Morgan's + Dr Pepper combo, the one that makes your teeth hurt.

The Candy tastes more like a White Russian, without the milk factor. You could definitely lure high school sophomores into a den of iniquity with this thing.

-- Anonymous, March 11, 2002

Speaking of the Caucasian, y'all do know that making a White Russian with anything other than whipping cream is just a sin, right?

-- Anonymous, March 11, 2002

Umm, don't you mean, a heart attack in a glass? "whipping cream"? I have a hard time with the WRussian/Bulldog made with half & half instead of milk.

Robyn, you are a stronger woman than I.

-- Anonymous, March 11, 2002

Do I spoil my tough girl facade when I admit that there is usually minimal cream in mine? I tend to go heavy on the Russian.

Since the Big Lebowski, we never refer to them as anything other than Caucasians or sometimes Caucazoids. God bless those Coen boys.

Tonight I'm making Rum Runners to try and use up some of the excessive Bacardi we have taking up cabinet space. I can see already that this week is going to take a lot of liquor.

-- Anonymous, March 11, 2002

This one's a drink that I termed the Tom Selleck...

1 part Stoli (not Vanil) 1 part Bacardo O 2 parts Grape Juice

-- served in a high ball over ice with or without cheesy Magnum P.I. mustache. Enjoy

Bumping up so that I can share this recipe I just found at the Food Network site. How good does this sound?

Mint Julep Martini Recipe courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 1999

24 to 32 fresh mint leaves 4 tablespoons simple syrup, (equal amounts sugar and water heated until sugar dissolves) Crushed ice 8 ounces Belvedere Vodka 4 sprigs mint, for garnish 4 martini glasses, cold

For one drink: Put 6 to 8 mint leaves, 1 tablespoon simple syrup and crushed ice in the bottom of a tall glass. With the handle of a wooden spoon, crush and mash the leaves to extract the flavor. Add 2 ounces vodka and shake several times. Strain into a chilled martini glasses and garnish with a small mint sprig.

Yield: 4 drinks Prep Time: 10 minutes

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Thank you!

Of course, I'll be trying this with my friend Stoli Vanil instead of Mr. Belvedere.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Oh. My. God. I forgot to post here that a couple of weekends ago I made a mean batch of Mudslides using Stoli Vanil. I am still recovering...it was just that good.

Oh, and take away the Bailey's and you get a White Russian with Stoli Vanil...it will totally rock your socks off.

Emeril irritates the piss out of me. Juleps are made with bourbon. Did everyone drink theirs today for the occasion? (the Derby, of course)

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Anybody know some good Mexican drinks, something that hasn't been done to death?

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

"Emeril irritates the piss out of me. Juleps are made with bourbon. Did everyone drink theirs today for the occasion? (the Derby, of course)"

Actually, I made an Emeril recipe this weekend for Kentucky Colonels which are essentially bourbon balls covered in dark chocolate - they were excellent by the way. Anyway, I just posted the Mint Julep Martini recipe because I thought it was an interesting twist on an old favorite. However, I drank traditional Mint Juleps this weekend, mint leaves and all. We even went the extra step and had the pewter goblets that they are supposed to be served in. It made for a very drunken Saturday and a rough Sunday morning. And, at some point around midnight, the Kentucky Colonels were polished off by those that were still standing.

Today I saw a billboard for "Clamato... y Cerveza!" complete with picture.

Y'all, it's been a while since I took Spanish, but Cerveza does still mean beer, right? That's gross, isn't it?

this time of year I'm a big fan of the Pimm's Cup. It's a New Orleans drink from Napoleon House, but it's easy:

A tall glass full of ice one shot Pimm's (it's a French liquor in a wine-looking bottle with a white label and big red letters that say, "PIMM'S") two tablespoons lemon juice one slice cucumber Sprite to fill the glass.

Refreshing and delicious! Make sure to put the cucumber slice in the glass before you pour the Sprite. We're going to serve them at the wedding, in fact.

Aww, T, you had to make working at the Red Lobster instead of attending your wedding look even less appealing, didn't you?

(Assuming I even GET the job at the Red Lobster. I'll probably not get it now and just be home unemployed and facing eviction instead of attending your wedding with the Pimm's Cups and shrimp and grits and lovely T and C union.)

Man...was surfing around for variations on the cosmo recipe and had to chime in - this is one of the funniest boards i've ever read - and here's one of my favorite add-ons to a mudslide...breyers vanilla ice cream...it's just that good...sometimes i just throw in a few shots of coffemate fat free french vanilla...sounds weird but quite tatsy - and here's a couple of other summer favorites - mainly twists on standard drinks:

tropical sex or tropical breeze:

1 part peach schnapps 1 part light rum 1 part oj dash of grenadine

silk panties: 1 part vodka (non vanil) 1 part peach schnapps oj to taste ...basically a fuzzy navel with vodka and a cute name

and don't forget the classic: tequila sunrise float: tequila oj grenadine don't mix it! it should have 3 layers...like a - SURPRISE...sunrise :)

A grown-up's kick-ass cream soda: Ginger ale. As much Stoli Vanil as you desire. Tastes just like cream soda, but has nice kick. Ancient ex-bartender secret, but we used to have to put vanilla syrup in it. Stoli Vanil makes it all soooo easy.
