This may be a really dumb question, but I've been wanting to ask anyway: Is the Macro Adapter-R sold separately? It was hinted somewhere that it is packaged with the lens. True?

Yup, it's optional. (14299) for current version.

I bought the original Macro Elmarit new w/o the adaptor. I don't know if the adaptor changed when the lens mount changed.

The original Macro Elmarit had an optional extender (14198).

When the lens was changed in 1980, the extender was replaced with the Macro Adaptor-R (14256). There is now a ROM version of the Adapor-R (14299) which is listed for $529 at Tamarkin.

In all cases, the adaptor was and is optional.

The original macro adaptor for the 60 was dedicated to that lens. It covered the aperture scale on the lens and had its own aperture ring. The current Macro-Adaptor-R is a universal accessory that can be used with most R lenses (although for some reason, supposedly not the 100 APO-Macro).

The early version was available as lens only, part no. 11205 or with the extension tube 14198, part no. 11203.
