Martin Carr: Songwriter or Popstar?greenspun.com : LUSENET : I Really Love Music : One Thread |
Boo Radleys to Brave Captain? Is he really Hear'Say in Syd Barrett's body or genius? I incline on the side of genius as I very much enjoyed Brave Captain and coupling it with Everythings Alright Forever and Giant Steps, the boy has got the goods.Any opinions?

He's ace. Basically. Only heard a couple of Brave Captain tracks, but that cover of Highway 61 Revisited is NOT the work of a 'pop star', is it? I feared for my speakers. He managed to combine ace hooks, melodies, and choruses with some fantastic and off-the-wall ideas, and he needs more respect.

Songwriter: He's the boss Popstar: For an nanosecondHis songwriting is both simple and complex. He makes the obvious transparent with music that is sublimely, stupendously lyrical. He has tunage by the yard and although his Brave Captain stuff hasn't got the 'in yer face' production of Boo Radleys stuff it's great that he is finally singing his own words and I'm really looking forward to the new album.

I agree with you: funny isnt it? Popstar for a nanosecond and ends up dub psychedelic monsta'.:What do you think of his voice? Half way between Apples in Stereo and Liam Gallagher...

I can't rightly say actually, but it's certainly not Gallagheresque - he'd need a foghorn to achive that level of sneering. Just hope that protecting them delicate vocals means he's laid off them Marlbies.

Nick where did you hear the cover of Highway 61 Revisited?
-- doomie (doompatrol@hotmail.com), August 16, 2001.
Dunno about Nick but I got my download from here: www.excellentonline.com - it made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it, but haven't played it since because I don't think my cranium could stand it again.
