Problem with Shutter Cocking - Film Wind Coupling

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

I recently purchased a P67 MLU body on eBay that I intend to use as a backup / alternate film body. When loading the first roll of film, I noticed that the winding mechanism had a much smoother feel than my other body, and I just assumed that the workings were in better shape than my old body. When the shutter cocked (after the prescribed number of winds), I noticed that the wind lever didn't have the same feel as my older body either. Upon further fiddling, it felt like the winding mechanism would keep winding film, even with the shutter cocked. I moved the film a fair amount, and noticed that the exposure counter didn't move any, so I fired the shutter, and all appeared normal. When the shutter was cocked for the second exposure -- same symptom -- it felt like I could wind the film all the way to the end with the shutter cocked. I'm planning to develop the roll tonight, and expect to find about 9 1/2 exposures with varying spaces between them. I get the feeling that the camera will work OK, but it's a little unsettling to have to worry about whether the film has gotten wound beyond the end of the film for the last exposure. Is this a well-known problem? Does anybody know what would cause these symptoms?

I have never heard of this problem before. It could have been caused by a user that tried to force the advance lever with the shutter already cocked? Not sure.
