RALEIGH-DURHAM, N.C. (Reuters) - Regional carrier Midway Airlines, already operating under bankruptcy protection, on Wednesday became the first U.S. company to officially cease business as a result of Tuesday's terror attacks in the United States. ADVERTISEMENT

Citing an expected drop in demand for air travel and a lack of financial resources, the Morrisville, North Carolina-based airline said it would end all future operations and cut 1,700 employees, effective immediately.
