Some observations today...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : FRL friends : One Thread

Walking into Walmart today..they had a GIGANTIC bin with a sign asking for donations of water, boots, socks and other items for rescue workers in Manhattan. The bin, my friends, was OVERFLOWING with donations..overflowing..I couldn't help but tear just looking at it.

Everywhere I look here..every car, every business, every home.. the American flag is being displayed. It's everywhere.. and homemade signs of encouragement and love. The whole reason I went to Walmart was to get some extra flags for our cars..but they were completely sold out. The American spirit is alive and well :-)

And I also saw two signs promoting hatred, one which said "kick them all out" on the back of a truck (followed by "freedom of speech"), and another which called for much worse, nailed to a utility pole at our most busiest intersection. That one was removed at some point today.. I drove by again later and it was gone.

So..Who didn't love the President's words today. "The people who knocked down those buildings will be hearing from all of us soon"

Nice to see you posting Kritter.

There are flags flying everywhere in Houston, too. Almost every sign or marquee in front of businesses says "God Bless America" or "Pray for America". There have been long lines of people waiting to give blood. Friday night we had a candlelight vigil in front of City Hall. My guess is that churches across our nation will be packed this morning. It looks like we're going to war... this is going to get ugly. I feel like we SHOULD respond... I'm praying hard that Bush will make wise decisions.

Same here Kritter. Lots of indication of unity.

I read in Drudge that one of the congressmen up in MA (?) was bellyaching about Bush not being the speaker Clinton is. I hope he hears from his constituents. Clinton's destruction of intel gathering and the military is a factor in this destruction we have now. I hope people will recognize that, but not holding my breath.

We went back to see our mothers yesterday. A very quick and tiring trip, but if gas is rationed in the near future, we might not make it back for a long while.

Will be filling water buckets later today.

Hey, don't be such a stranger; we miss you around here --although we don't spend nearly so much time as we used to.

Coast Guard......if you do decide.

They have the jobs that involve working every day to do the daily life-saving tasks and safety/protection that matter every day .... coping with "routine" emergencies that rescue Americans every day.

The rest work endlessly under extreme conditions and practice drills all the time so they DON'T have to do a their jobs for "real".

Robert, it looks too much like all that practice was for naught, then... they're almost certainly going to have to do their jobs for real, and in hostile territory, to boot. :-(
