An interesting experience!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poole's Roost II : One Thread |
I posted my experiences from 11 sep to the present on Unk's site. It was interesting. It was TWA flight 230 out of Sea-Tac at 6:05 PT on 11 Sep 01. We were diverted to Spokane. None of us knew each other.
Still, after Spokane, we became a community. Everyone knew each other on sight. It was only 3 days, but it seems like a lifetime. We had one person from Nam. He didn't speak any English and had no idea what was happening. We took care of him.
We helped each other find hotels and seats on flights. We won't see each other again; but for three days we were a team.
Odd, but an interesting experience. The group, as we became, asked me to write the airline with an explantion of our experience. I have done that.
Very nice folks. Sorry that I don't really know them.
Best Wishes,,,

As I said on Unk's, welcome back.I've had experiences like that (though never for 3 days!). It's amazing how people can become "friends" when they're put together in a bad situation.
The Vietnamese guy: did you use hand signals? :)

Poole:Pretty much. We had a couple on the plane that spoke Chinese and he understood some of that. The first hurdle was to convince him that Spokane wasn't Saint Louis. Eventually, we got him booked on a new flight; we found that he had family in Saint Louis and got a phone number. Someone used a cell phone to call them. They were somewhat frantic because they had no idea where he had been for this time. I guess that all's well that ends well.
Best Wishes,,,,

THAT is what happenes in the Military! People from all walks of life who normally would never normally been in groups together are brought together by their common situation. It's times like yours where the best in people comes to the surface.
That is happening in this country right now, and in a way, with countries of the world.

I agree Cherri but it's sad that that is what it takes. Yes, every generation needs a good war and/or depression. Alas.
