Orange County Iranian Festival Canceled

Organizers of an Iranian festival in Orange County have canceled the annual event because, the organizers say, they want to mourn with the rest of the nation and show their solidarity.

The weekend event slated for September 29-30 was expected to draw 25,000 people. It has been an annual tradition since 1994.

Mehregan Persian festival sponsors say the cancellation will cost them about $30,000 in money already spent.

The two-day autumn festival dates back thousands of years in Iran, and is widely celebrated in that country. It's a celebration of peace, love and nature.
