Snickerdoodle help! (Kitchen - Baking)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Yikes- my yuppie boyfriend wants cookies that I never heard of before- Snickerdoodles. I finally found a recipe and made a trial batch the other day. They actually turned out pretty good, except that the tops split open. I don't know whether it is because I made the dough balls too big, or the dough just wasn't sticking together well enough. My cookie baking experience is zilch, since I don't eat sweets at home, so I am at a loss. Would appreciate any help, comments, or constructive criticism. Thanks.

Did you leave them balls on the cookie sheet? Your supposed to mash them with a fork before baking and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top also, I dip my fork in the sugar/cinn mix to keep it from sticking to the fork.

I roll mine in balls, dip in a bowl of mixed sugar and cinnamon and place the balls on the cookie tray. Yes, the tops do split. They are supposed to.

Ha Kim- No, I can assure you we did not break up over the cookies, but I feel better knowing that the splitting is normal- I thought they looked awful. But, they taste great (I've eaten most of them myself!).

Elizabeth - Definately place that personal ad. My DH and I met because of his ad in the newspaper. Our 11th anniversary is 11/4! Good luck!
