Summcron DR & M6TTL-- specifics

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi, I realize there are issues with some Summicron DR's not fitting on some M6's. Can anyone tell me the specific reason this is? Is it the lens itself, or the "eyes" that are the problem? I am looking at mail ordering a nice one, but I dont want to end up returning it because it wont fit on my M6TTL. Or, is it the case that NO DR's will fit on the TTL's? Thanks,

Marke--

For more info, try http://www.cameraquest.com/mlenses.htm#Lens_Lineup Scroll down to the list of Leitz lenses and find the DR, and you will see some info about this problem. The answer seems to be that there is no firm answer! From reading between the lines, I would suspect that this issue may have been rectified by the time the TTL models went into production.

The eyes also have a tab to prevent you from removing the lens when they are on (cloe focus engaged). This tab may have to be filed off to fit the eyes on a TTL (it also had to be filed off to fit them on a M5).

Marke:

I use a DR on an M6, non TTL without any problems. You need to be cautious when removing the lens that it is not in the near range as the step on the cam can can cause problems when removing the lens. I do not know about having to file off the pin on the eyes.

Good luck.

Marke, get a M3 also and enjoy life; although I know you can use it, but with precautions wrote before, even the eyes.

You do not need to "file" off the tab on the eyes - it is held on by a small screw. The DR will work fine in normal mode on your M6, and it should work just fine with the eyes in CR if you remove the tab on the eyes. Make sure the lens is in its normal focus range before attaching or removing it from the body.

Sorry for the confusion Jack, you are mostly right. The earliest ones did not have a screw holding on the tab but the later ones did. I do not have a DR and was just going by instructions in the catalog (they use the word "machined").

Hi, Thanks for the help. The easiest way to find my answer was of course to go try several Summicron DR's and see. Spent part of Saturday doing just that. Found four locally, all fit without a problem. Maybe the issue was solved during M6 production. Thanks again,

Marke:

For the record, all of the DR Summicrons will fit without the eyes - it's the eyes that won't fit on the M6TTL unless the little tab is removed.

I just bought a nice 2/50 DR first version. It fits on my M6 ELW even with eyes but the last 10th of a mm to turn it to infinity is a little bit harder; not so on my M2 and M3.

It is not a big problem because You wonīt see any difference in the negatives if You donīt turn the last 10th of a mm to infinity. Still I donīt know why ...

Does anyone know?

Best regards
