Hi dear all! I'm quite new to the Leica's world and I've recentrly bought a Summicron 50 mm f/2 and a Tele-Elmarit 90 mm f/2.8 for my M6 (black "Wetzlar"). Now I just need their respective lens hoods, but I can't find any, even after extensive researches on the Internet. Do you know which type match the lens specified? Any help on finding them? Thanks a lot in advance and CIAO! -- Marco.

I just bought a 12538 hood from B&H used dept. (for the 11819 50 summicron with the tab that I am expecting in the mail any day now to replace my current 11817). They also had the 12585 which is the slotted metal version of the 50 hood before they made the plastic version but I have a couple of them. I ordered a B&W rubber collapsible hood in 39mm which was inexpensive and may be the best solution. I am going to give it a try. When I had a tele-elmarit I used the rubber hood from the CL 90 and alternated with the deep metal hood from the older elmarit. Lot of ways to get in the shade. Good Luck,

For a table of the hoods and filter thread sizes for each version of every Leica M lens, see the table by Erwin Puts at http://www.imx.nl/ photosite/leica/overview/listm.html FWIW, I much prefer the 12585 metal hood for 50/2 instead of the plastic replacement (12538?). The metal hood is easier to install and remove, while the plastic ones distort as you squeeze the mounting tab springs. Also, I recommend the 12575 metal hood for the TE 90.2.8. This lens is flare-prone, at least this was the case for several examples I tried from late 70's and early 80's, and the deeper hood helps, compared to the shallow rubber hood. These metal hoods are hard to find now, but worth it.

For the 'thin' 90 Tele-Elmarit I definitely recommend the 12575 metal hood, which also fits the 135 Tele-Elmar. I just bought one new in box with the plastic cap within the past 3-4 months - about $75, which is what most places sell them for USED. Try long-time Leica dealers who may still have these in their accessory drawers from the '80's - that's where I found mine.
