For those of us who owned lots of board games as kids. Some of them were as bad as this one.
Trivial Pursuit bragging acceptable.

I've been really hankering for Hungry Hungry Hippos lately. We play a lot of backgammon, and it's serious business in our house. Partner and I are unbeatable at Trivial Pursuit (Millenium Edition...we are quite beatable at Genus I). There is an ongoing scrabble tournament at Partner's Grandmother's house, but they refuse to keep score, lest it become too competitive. It makes me insane.
Who else was convinced that the game of Life was a psychic game, and what ever happened in the game was destined to be your future?

I had Hungry Hungry Hippos too! I loved that it made a lot of racket. Our favorite games as kids were 1.) Operation 2.) Connect 4 (we played that for HOURS) 3.) Clue 4.) UNO
One Christmas my brother got this kick-ass boardgame, I think it was called "BIGFOOT." Anyway, each player's game piece was a real life rolling miniature monster truck!!! With huge tires and the roll bar and everything!!! I forget the rules of the game or the objective, but just rolling those trucks around on the game board was cool.

This isn't an old game, in fact I think it's rather new, but I think a bunch of you might like it, being literary types. It's called Quiddler, and it's all sorts of fun... (I hope that link works, I always have problems with amazon).Growing up we played all sorts of boardgames... I still love Careers and Masterpiece...
Oh, and I just learned "ultimate" monopoly... A great way to play with just 2-3 people, and makes for a quicker game. It's basically regular monopoly, except when an opponent owns at least one of a color, nobody else can buy it (also true for the utilities and railroads).

Oh, since I've already gone off topic and talked about new games, I should have also pimp Set. It hurts your brain. And I first played Encore my freshman year of high school. The game is cheap and poorly put together, but it's so much fun. And everybody has to sing, so that's entertaining.

What was the one with the cherries and the baskets? I hated that game.I loved Clue, though. Loved it.
And I still love Trivial Pursuit. I mean, I brought it to Vegas, for chrissake.

What was the one with the cherries and the baskets? I hated that game.Oh, that would be "Hi-Ho Cherry-o"... And yes, it's not a fun game for anybody over the age of 5... It does, however, help you count to 12, so play it with your kids... When they're 3...
I liked "Go For Broke" in a 'innovative idea' kinda way... You had to spend all your money, and the damn game kept giving you paychecks. Basically, the board game version of "Brewster's Millions". It wasn't actually well done, though...
I wish I could remember the name of one game that was very popular with my family. Everybody was running for president, and you'd collect "popular vote" cards, but you'd spend them on states... I remember that our cards were well marked... The 1,000,000 vote card was so worn out that anybody could pick it out of the deck. Surprisingly, this didn't actually make the game much easier...
What was it called? "Make the states"? Something like that... Anyhow, it was a whole lot of fun...

You know, I don't think I've ever lost a game of Parcheesi.
-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001
Just saying "Tiddlywinks" still cracks me up. One of the funniest words ever.

T, is that a Parcheesi challenge I see up there? Not that I know how to play it or anything...
-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001
Keli, I believe it could be.

My family played a lot of Sorry! and Uno, two games I haven't played in about 15 years.Oh, and I loved Clue. There is the cutest photo in the world of T and me on Christmas monring. We're both wearing these applique sweatsuits that were quite popular in 1986, hers yellow, mine purple, and we're proudly displaying the Clue board game. I wish I knew where it was.
