Adam and Eve

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Does the Holy Catholic Church tell us anywhere about what happened to Adam and Eve after they died ? Did they go to Heaven or Purgatory or hell for directly disobeying Our Lord ?

Thanks, David S

Our birthday !!!! See our earth as Purgatory !!!! later comes dead !!!! after , we have our next generations !!!!

It's a fairy-tail !!!! But I see the meaning behind this story !!!! But what has this to do with catholicism ????

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Laurent,

You asked me "What does this have to do with Catholicism?" If you read my question again, you will see that I asked, "What Our Holy Catholic Church teaches us ? "

I know you openly talk about your bad eye sight, but maybe it is time to get your eyes checked again Pal! I enjoy you here sometimes, but I do NOT like Atheists telling me about my Catholic Church. You seem to have forgotten, that you ran-away from the Church Laurent, and that tells me that you do not have the common sense you were born with.

Hi, David.
The Church never makes a declaration about whether someone has gone to Purgatory or hell -- but only to heaven (and then only rarely).
According to two sources of information that I checked, the Church not only venerates Adam and Eve as saints, but also observes their feast day as December 24, showing a linkage to the birth of the "Second Adam" on December 25.

John,

Thanks, I never read that Adam and Eve were Saints in Heaven ! Our Lord is so merciful with His Sacred Heart. God forgave Adam and Eve even when they got to see Him with their own eyes and still disobeyed God.

David S ,

My answer has nothing to do with atheism !!!! Yip , I left the religion & church for ever !!!! But , I really don't see the link between Adam & Eve and the catholic Church and even atheism !!!! As you can see , I don't have nothing to hide , I really like an open discussion !!!! Especially about religion , we're opposites , But I don't destroy churches and holy books by burn them with physical violence , in the past I did this with MY OWN bibles after I finished my school , but now , I just don't buy them or read them , I just ignore them if I see them !!!! The same counts for other religious material !!!! I just ignore them , there is nothing wrong if you do it this way !!!!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Your last words make me very curious, Laurent.

"I just don't buy them or read them , I just ignore them if I see them !!!! The same counts for other religious material !!!! I just ignore them , there is nothing wrong if you do it this way !!!!"

Why, then, do you "read" our words here?
Why, then, do you not "just ignore" our forum when you "see" it?

If you hate religion and ignore churches and "holy books," why are you here? Is it that you are seeking to draw all of us into disbelief? Or is it that you are not so sure of yourself after all -- and that you are still attracted by God and religion?

God bless you.
John

-- (jfgecik@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Oh yes , John , I am sure about my thoughts , and yeah you are completely right , I do have to ignore this forum , but I like a good discussion with pro & contra !!!! There is nothing wrong with that !!!!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Laurent,

You asked me, " what does Adam and Eve have to do with The Catholic Church?" Adam and Eve are Saints in the Catholic Church, and their Feastday is December 24.

Did you not read John's answer to my question ? Are your eyes that bad that you miss reading different post on same thread? Who are you to ask me about my Catholicism? I am on this board because I love being a Catholic, and I want to dig deeper into my relegion!

You are here because you are unsure of yourself, and that is ok, but please do not act obnoxious and ignorant on the Catholic Forum. You have never posted anything positive about Relegion. Are you that lonely out in the Netherlands or Belgium that you have to waste time in a Catholic forum if you do not believe ? Or do you realy believe in God, but you are one of those, that likes to hear himself talk?

Get a Life.

I am not looking for religion or a fight !!!! But , I think its my right to say no to religion !!!! I don't ask you to take over my ideas or thoughts , not at all !!!! We both do have our conviction !!!! I don't wanna use hate , that's how you see it !!!! I am not blind of stupidity , I listen to others opinion , but if you visite an anti-religious site , man they are too stupid !!!! Some of them want to drink blood and use violence , no thanks !!!!

I am not alone , but I like to be alone , I didn't say lonely !!!! I like to talk !!!! And , I think it's not a waste of time to visite this forum !!!!

But to be honest about your topic question , I still don't see the link !!!!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Laurent, I respect your wish to pursue intelligent discussion and educated debate, but I am convinced you have selected an inappropriate forum for your attempts. You have entered a situation where many devout Catholic Christians come to interract. You have stated your anti-Christian stance and expect to receive passive and charitable reaction to your angry diatribes. You must understand that in response to what we may interpret as your heated dialogue is equal in its reactionary position. Perhaps you should consider seeking discussion and debate with a community more suited to your character. Now, when I say character, I don't judge you to be a poor character, only that your attempts to further discussion have been fruitless in this forum, and you could benefit from a less self- assured and openly Catholic Christian group of people. Your dramatic exit and then reappearance is vexing. If we so trouble you, why do you come back? Conversion from our faith is an act of futility. Please ask yourself why you are here. The purpose of the forum, as I understand it, is to glean further insight into our faith...not to submit ourselves to insults or harangues from detractors. We seem to welcome challenges to define our beliefs, but if you continue to disrespect them, how can you, in good conscience, continue to visit this site?

And as far as the Catholic nature of Adam and Eve...it is a part of our Bible. It is altogether Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, and yes, even Islamic. That it is a parable to show us that result of us choosing to seek our own will over God's is powerful...not a fable. As Catholics, we believe that all things in the Bible are true, and some of them actually happened. The Bible uses various literary forms to teach us, and the story of Adam and Eve is an example of such a literary form.

Respectfully,

Melissa

-- Melissa (holy_rhodes@earthlink.net), October 29, 2001.

Melissa , I am aware what forum this is !!!! I don't expect sweet answers to my questions or answers !!!! I know that to !!!! But it has no sense to visite an atheistic forum to look answers !!!! I am not unsure about myself , but I like to meet new people , even they have other thoughts !!!! IS this wrong ???? I am not the enemy !!!!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 30, 2001.

Laurent,

I also have no problem with you asking questions as to what Catholics believe. However, I have two problems with your posts. The first one is that you make statements like See our earth as Purgatory !!!! later comes dead !!!! after , we have our next generations !!!!

I assume you are stating that there is no afterlife. Then please state this in the form of an opinion (as in I believe, or it is my belief that). Just like we asked David B. to clarify his non- Catholic views, I ask that you inform people that yours is an athiest view, and not reflective of the Catholic Church.

The second problem I have with your post is the over punctuation. When I wish to make a strong statement, I may follow it with three exclamations. But not every sentence in your posts needs to have an exclamation point, let alone 4 of them. Try writing declarative statements once in a while (followed by a period). It would make reading your posts much easier.

God Bless! Glenn

Oeps , wrong e-mail , it doesn't work anymore !!!!!!!!

Glenn , this is my typical way to write letters !!!!

Laurent, I read your e-mail address in your post[relegion suxx]. It is time for you to leave for another few months.

See you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David S , That was really a mistake from me !!!! I've seen it too late , sorry for this , that's why I ask the moderator to delete that particular message !!!! It was not ment as an insult , but 1 stupid mistake from and you take me for that !!!! Everone makes mistake , me to but also everyone !!!! If you cannot stand me , sorry than !!!! I have to delete each time that wrong mailaddress , sorry , I am not a computerexpert !!!!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 30, 2001.

Laurent,

I know that is how you write. I have witnessed it for 2 months now. What I was suggesting was a way to improve your writing.

Let me give you this example. Suppose you and I were talking and I added you know after every sentence. There are a lot of people who do this without thinking about it. If you pointed out that adding you know after every sentence actually detracted from the message that I was trying to convey, then this would be called constructive criticism. I should take that criticism and use it to better my talking skills.

Laurent, you can email the moderator directly by emailing (Catholic_moderator@hotmai l.com). I would suggest you do this if you wish the previous post to be deleted.

-- Glenn (glenn@excite.com), October 30, 2001.

Laurent, I applaud your desire to meet new people and make friends, but how many new friendships can you anticipate forging with a seemingly angry and combative approach? Asking for answers to your questions, and other curious folks is encouraged and welcomed. However, when those questions are answered and are then received with reproach from the one who inquired, how are we to just allow continued attack. And I use the word attack since I also agree with others who relay the message that your puntuation comes across as overly angry emphasis. I respect that you have your own views, and wish to seek other viewpoints. Perhaps by toning your posting down, you will find that dialogue which you seek from this forum will surface.

Peace and all good

Melissa , I know what you mean , and I'm not using (!!!!) because of angriness , but because of my bad sight ; it's easier to see the end of every sentence !!!! But If you like to , I will use __ next time ???? I am open for others opinion , but I don't have to change my point of view about everything ?? I don't expect sweet answers on my Q.and A. , I know this !!

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), October 31, 2001.

Laurent,

If the exclamation points are for separation, how about simple spaces. Or try using the "bar" | (top right of most keyboards). I'm still not sure how that will look though.

-- Glenn (glenn@excite.com), October 31, 2001.

Unfortunately, Glenn, multiple spaces do not work.
The software that accepts these posts strips out all extra spaces, condensing them to one blank character.
I agree that multiple exclamation marks (!!!!) are not a pleasant thing to see. Isn't it interesting how they affect us emotionally? I think that Laurent has a good idea in suggestion something low-lying and neutral, such as an underscore (______).

-- Laurent LUG. (no__religion@hotmail.com), November 01, 2001.

Thanks for explaining that to me John. I always did wonder why the posts sometimes changed. I have a question for you. When I want to begin a new line, how do I do it? I know if I hit return twice, it will start a new paragraph. But if I hit return once, the software seems to strip this new line character and make it one line.

Thanks in advance,

-- Glenn (glenn@excite.com), November 01, 2001.

Hi, Glenn.
It's pretty easy. You have to use a four-character HTML "break" command. I cannot show it to you directly, since it will disappear and cause a "break" to a new line! So I will show it to you in a roundabout way (learned from Frank, I think).

Use the following four characters, but substitute the "less-than" character [pointing to the left] for the left brace, and substitute the "greater-than" character for the right brace:
{br}

That's all there is to it. Give it a try.
John
PS: If you want to know how to use "bolding" or italics or underscoring or colors or links, I can explain those also. But maybe there should be a new thread about stuff like that to put in the Moderator's folder?

-- (jfgecik@hotmail.com), November 01, 2001.

John that would be great! How about it Moderator? Now that you're rested up from your holiday, do you feel up to it? I could sure use a "quickie" course!

Ed

-- Ed Lauzon (grader@accglobal.net), November 01, 2001.

Well, Ed, I didn't mean to put the whole burden on the Moderator, who has quite a few duties already. But if he/she would start an "Basic HTML tricks" thread (or invite one of us to start such a thread, with others contributing), I would try to pitch in.
JFG

-- (jfgecik@hotmail.com), November 01, 2001.

John, Thanks for the information. I actually picked up how to italicize,
make bold, and others from earlier posts. Just the line break never came up. Thanks again. By the way, for those of you who wish to see the HTML behind any page (including this thread), use View->source from your Internet Explorer menu. I guess I should have done that instead of bothering John. Oh well, sorry John. Glenn

-- Glenn (glenn@excite.com), November 02, 2001.

One more thing. There is a whole forum on LUSENET where people try out different HTML tags. You can go there, find a thread that has the formatting you would like to see, and then use the View->Source.

For those of you that are new to using these tags, please remember to turn off your formatting. For instance, if you use the bold tab {b} (again, using the less than sign instead of { and greater than sign instead of }), you have to turn it off using {/b}.

Glenn

-- Glenn (glenn@exciite.com), November 02, 2001.

Yes, Glenn, on several occasions (including this one, when you asked about going to a new line), I thought about mentioning the way to look at the "source code." The only reason I avoided mentioning it is that there are a variety of "Internet browsers," and they tend to call things by different names. I use Netscape, and I have to click on "View" and then on "Page source." You mentioned "View==>Source". Other people's browsers may have this resource labeled differently, so I just didn't want to take the chance of confusing anyone.
JFG

-- (jfgecik@hotmail.com), November 02, 2001.

John,

You are right. I should have mentioned that it was view->source in Microsoft Internet Explorer. But since you stated how to do it in Netscape, we covered the two most popular browsers and should have covered most users. Not sure about the WebTV users, Linux users, etc.

-- Glenn (glenn@excite.com), November 02, 2001.

Glenn, it seems as though a million-and-one people are tied in with "AOL" -- though I have never seen anyone use American On-Line. I don't know what it looks like, and I don't know if it is linked to Netscape or Internet Explorer or some third browser.
David S., since you use AOL, can you tell us?

John, I am a lurker when I read Glenn and yourself talk computer. I fell like I am first grade with my computer knowledge. I would like to learn how you guys put your article right on screen to be clicked with mouse. I am glad Laurent asked question!

I have AOL 6.0 with Internet explorer 5.0 as my browser.

Thanks,

I have a question about our original parents' family. That is Adam and Eve's children. I suppose this would apply to Noah's family also. Since there were no other humans around, wouldn't the siblings only have each other to marry?

-- Mike H (michael.hitzelberger@vscc.cc.tn.us), March 06, 2002.

No, even back then there were some Protestants around, that's what started all the trouble... :-)

Hello, Mike.
We had an interesting chat about this not long ago. Please enjoy this thread.
Hi, David S. Sorry. It appears that I overlooked your message to me back in November. Do you still need information on how to put a hyperlink (to be clicked) on the screen, or did you pick it up on another thread when I explained it (to Mike, I think)?
JFG

Hi, John.

I read where you put it up on forum several times. Thanks. One day I will be smart like Glenn and figure it out. God bless you.
