I don't normally use speeds below 1/15th. Today I was doing some film testing and used 1/8 and 1/4. After the shutter closes the mechanism continues to make noise for about as long as the shutter setting. For example on 1 second the mechanism makes sound for about 1 sec after the shutter closes. Normal? Not normal?

I just noticed that this evening, taking some 1 s shots of the San Francisco skyline from Treasure Island on my way back from work.

I'm going to assume it's normal- haven't really shot down at that level yet with my virtually new M6.

Dry click through those slow speeds once a month. It will keep your M from getting sticky.

the continuing buzz after exposure is the clockwork returning to its starting position to be ready for the next shot. some cameras do this on winding, some immediately after exposure, some have a clutch to make the return stroke silent (i think there are leicas in all of these categories but i can't recall which model does which).

it is a good idea to exercise the slow speeds regularly, especially if you don't use them much. loads cheaper than a CLA to free them up later.
