South Georgia Railroad equipment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread

I am gathering information on the South Georgia Railroad. My maternal great-great grandfather was Zenus Wise Oglesby, one of the founders. I am extremely interested in locating any equipment that might be in existence. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I HAVE SOME WRITTEN AND PICTORIAL INFORMATION IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT. MY GRANDFATHER WORKED THERE AS THE ROADMASTER AROUND THE TURN OF THE CENTURY AND WAS A FRIEND OF YOUR GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER. MY MOTHER KNEW THEM AND SHE IS STILL ALIVE AT 95 YEARS OLD. I AM IN EASLEY, SOUTH CAROLINA AND MY PHONE NUMBER IS 864-850- 5126.

Only have 3-4 sources of info on the South Georgia in my notes:

See pgs 262-263 in the RE Prince book, SOUTHERN RAILWAY SYSTEM STEAM LOCOMOTIVES AND BOATS. This may be hard to find, but a library should be able to locate you a copy through an inter-library loan program.

DIESEL ERA magazine, Vol 9, No. 2 has an article called Diesls on the South Georgia and Live Oak, Perry, & Gulf Railroads, which has some history in the front, and does mention the family name Oglesbys.

There is a feature on TAPLINES(on line) about the South Georgia RR, at http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/4095/southgeorgia/sgry1.htm

RAILROAD Magazine, Mar 44 has a story on the history of the line as well.
