I cannot help to notice that about 1 out of 25 posts refer to goats, there is 784 questions in the old answers about goats. What question has not been asked and answered? I am in a rural area where there is cattle, horses, hogs, sheep, emu, rabbits, ect. But no goats. Where are all these goats? Their not in pastures here, they are not at auctions here; is goat burgers a new fad that I am not aware of yet?

Yep goat burgers is a OLD fad .There is a growing ethnic community that is buying goats for meat .They are getting fairly good prices at auction here.They also make a perfect animal for smaller homesteads .They can supply your family with milk and the excess kids for meat .

When first decided to start with goats, it was almost like looking for the needle in the haystack. Even when I first came up to look at real estate in MO, the realtor said there were no goats around, however, on our drive to places we saw a couple of farms that had them. Since, I have found several people fairly close by that are into goats big time. There is even a sheep dairy close that is marketing sheep cheese (try saying that 3 times real fast). My family thought I was nuts; since then they are amazed at how many they see around. Could be you are just in an area that hasn't discovered or quite gotten into these wonderful diverse creatures.

There are lots of goats around here. At one of the local auctions, it seems that they are running through nearly as many goats as they are cows! We don't have any yet, but we're thinking about it. I'm sure that if we do eventually get goats, I'll be on here asking questions as well. Sometimes, it's hard to find an answer in the archives - and some folks who are new to this forum don't even realize it's there. So, the same questions get asked and answered. No biggie! ;-)

Well I know that about 75 goats live on my farm in Missouri. Because goats are known escape artist they are surrounded with woven wire and 2 strands of barb and even one old nann still can scale that with ease. I cannot even fathom a life without goats. Truly love the critters.

Yes.. where in a rural area do you live where there are no goats? Check your local livestock auction and you'll probably find a few running through. Now if you live in an exclusive gated community devoted to, say, golf or horses, you'll probably find covenants against the keeping of goats!

Hey! Goat ain't just an "ethnic" meat.. in my area it's a much sought after "gourmet" treat! The big problem seems to be that too many of the meat goat raisers are turning out these tough little dirt fed critters and saying "Hey.. that's what 'those' kind of people want." If uniform, nearly lamb-sized alfalfa fed 6 month old carcasses were available to be cut into chops, ribs, roasts, and legs, it would be the next yuppie gourmet fancy restaurant meat! It is so delicious!

I am in the upper right cornor of W. Va. near Romney, haven't see a goat yet. I haven't even seen a minority person much less a goat; this rock I live on would not support any hooved livestock, the only thing that would grow here is rocks and someone has already done that. I am dis abled and live on a pension, earthworms are more my style.

I'm in NJ and have two does and a buck for sale.

It's funny because I mentioned to someone the other day that my goats will lie on the boulders like it is the most comfortable spot in the world. I got mine because I have alot of woods and brush. Since they are brousers, they fit in the best.

There is also an aution house closeby that has tons of goats, and they come from PA, and they come from TX.

Lots of them here in Indiana. I guess we are in the top 5 states registered with American Dairy Goat Association. Does = milk. Wethers = meat. Good Eatin'. Roast hind leg of goat with a ground thyme and fresh rosemary rub. Sliced thinly and eaten like ravenous dogs.... Hey, 20,000,000 coyotes CAN'T be wrong!

I wish that were true Paul! Deer are the carriers of menengial worms here! We try to keep them out of the woods!

Mitch, I would betcha a nickle, if you gave me your area I could not only find you goat folks, but thriving clubs and a major show or two in your area. I of course am dairy goats/Nubians but there is a meat goat type behind every tree in Texas, about the only thing found at auctions, and everything is Boer influenced even if they arguably aren't since they bring more money. Sheep are rare here. Vicki

Mitch there are goats all over WV! Big goat group in Spencer too. Check out the Market Bulletin and you will see them being bought and sold all over at livestock auctions and through individuals. With all the nooks and crannies in WV they hide well.

Hi, Here in Colorado there are lots of goats. Our favorite Goat-Lady used to live in Wyoming and we bought all of our goat milk and cheese and butter from her. 95% of all mohair comes from Texas. Goats are EVERYwhere! It's even in the meat section of the supermarket. With the grass/weeds growing all year around, many have the goats as lawnmowers for the acreages.
