I realize I may have spent the equivalent of a vacation on Mars the last couple of weeks, but I was assuming Thanksgiving was this Thursday, which is vitally important since I'm making most of the food. But someone just told me it's Wednesday! I would surely appreciate the facts and nuthin' but the facts on this particular issue, and if you would be so kind as to forget that I asked this question after you give me the answer, I'd appreciate that too!

President Abraham Lincoln established Thanksgiving in 1863 by setting aside the last Thursday of November as a national Day of Thanksgiving. Then, in 1941, Congress permanently established the last Thursday of each November as a national holiday.

Don't feel bad, my husband was 31 when we got married, the first Thanksgiving we took a 4 day weekend trip. Next summer I started talking to him about another weekend trip for Thanksgiving and he was giving me a real hard time, saying he would have to wait and see if the office was closed, etc. I finally exploded at him. "We took a long weekend LAST thanksgiving, why can't we take one THIS thanksgiving?" "Well", he said, "Last year Thanksgiving came on a Thursday".

OK, this is what I know about thanksgiving. It WAS the last Thrusday of Nov. Was changed to the 4th Thurs because folks got confused when there were 5 Thursdays some years. So, I agree, it is officially the 4th Thrusday of NOV. Now, I forgot why, this being Tuesday, I have a turkey in the oven and pies are baked and on the counter and well you get the pic. I think you can celebrate it any day of the week or year as far as that matters. We are having ours today because it is the day most of our guest can be here. I am hopeing they all don't show up again on Thursday. I'll be eating a turkey sandwich and watching a ball game.
