Pretty good chance that is what happened. You see goats do that (breed), it is thier number one purpose in life. You say he, the "Billy", or Buck as I call him "got in". Well you will find out that they are pretty good at gettin in, just about anywhere.

Now the Doe goat (you might call her a "Nanny"), like most other animals will have a heat cycle shortly after giving birth. Nature does this to assure the continuation of, well goats (and other animals too).

You say she hid the Kid goats when he got in, this is normal and natural. You see he, the Buck was not there to visit some kids, his purpose was completey devoted to breeding. He would most likely harm or kill the kids if they got in the way.

At any rate I would suggest some extra steps to keep him from "getting in", and be aware that "buck" goats can and do, pick locks.

I don't think she is bred, while it is certainly possible, it's not very likely. I have noticed that my bucks get very excited when a doe kids and they want to see and be near the kids, not to harm them but rather to prtect them. In fact, one buck would stand near a kidding doe and protect her while she was in labor, from any of the bossy does that might bother her. When the kids were born he sniffed them and acted very proud, he did not harm them at all.

I have had Saanens and Alpines and have never had the does get pregnant right after giving birth! Like Rebekah said, I've had a buck or two show a great deal of interest (in both the doe and the new kid) but never try to breed the doe! Maybe it varies from breed to breed. The breeds I've had are seasonal breeders. I think that horses will have a "mare heat" where the mare will come in heat within 2 wks. or so of giving birth (correct me if I'm wrong!), but not goats!

It is called a foal heat and is aprox 5 days after foaling. Cant tell you about goats though.

I have never had a doe come into heat right after kidding. We have rebreed 6 to 8 weeks after kidding. I think the hormones of giving birth along with the lochia blood afterwards, must be awfully close at mimicing heat for the buck. Years back when we did run all our stock together the buck always were paying unwanted attention to the does right after they kidded. I agree with the others, get your fences fixed, or move the bucks off the fence lines. You are teaching them while younger to be just worse as they get older, first we can go over a 3 foot fence, then a 4 then anything, sort of like training an athlete to jump, except on the other side of the jump is a sexy young thing :) Vicki
