Anyone Have A Knit Dog Sweater Pattern For A Large Dog (Dobermane)?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
My daughter just moved to Virginia from Florida and has a large dobermain that is freezing to death! I have been trying to locate a simple quick doggie sweater (knitting) but have been unable to locate one. Does anyone out there have one they would be willing to share with me. Thanks a million!

Put "free knit dog sweater pattern" in your search engine and you will get lots of patterns. I made one off of a pattern that I got on the internet, but it was sewn, not knitted. Sewn would be faster and easier, but I saw lots of knitted ones too. The one that I got was off of a craft site that has free sewing patterns. Wish I could remember what it was called.

Yep, I tried that search but every thing I come across is either way too small (I am not good AT ALL in converting patterns) or is done on 4 needles. Also, although the search gives lots of patterns, they are duplicates of the same sites, only from other links.I am looking for something real simple, fast, and big! Sorry, I don't sew. Thanks again!

If you're just looking to keep the dog warm, why not use a Youth sized sweat shirt. You may need to add a draw string around the waist to keep it in place. Just a thought.

That is a great idea Karen. Would save a lot of knitting too. I used to put my sweatshirts on my labrador before I got married. She even had her own little tennis shoes for rainy days:~)! Yep, I am certifiable! Hubby put a stop to the dog dressup thing almost 20 years ago! Now my daughter dresses up her dog. Chip off the old blockette! You would probably need to hem up the sleeves of the sweatshirt a little too.

When I was showing goats I went to goodwill and bought cheap sweatshirts and sweaters and used them on the goats after show clipping when the weather was cool.

try http://knitting.about.com/library/blpetpat.htm They have a dog sweater for small dogs, that says it is easy to adapt to large ones.

I made a sweater for my Pitbull. I went down to the thrift store and bought a large men's wool sweater. Putting it into the washer and dryer on regular settings made it thicker and machine-washable. It also shrunk the sweater down to her size. Then I trimmed the sleeves off short and bound the edges. Since her chest is much narrower, proportionately, than a human's, I put eyelets into the sweater chest and laced it up like a hiking boot. It was cheap, easy, and attractive, and it fit her very well and kept her snug and warm in the cold mountain air when I took her backpacking.
