Is your shopping finished? Whose gift are you having trouble choosing?

Answers

If anyone in the Dallas area wants to recommend a swank spa where SmokerSis-in-Law might enjoy a gift certificate, I'd be grateful.

WG, there's a couple of Elizabeth Arden Red Door day spas in Dallas (one in Dallas, one in Plano), and you can buy gift certificates online. http://www.elizabethardensalons.com/location/state/tx.htm

Note that there's two listed in Dallas, but the one at Saks is a salon only. The one on Northwest Highway is a spa, and very froufrou looking from the outside.

I haven't even started shopping. And I have no idea what I'm getting for ANYone,so there you go. Except for my parents. Siblings and I are getting them expensive electronics and splitting the cost. So that's easy. It's just everyone else that's stumping me.

Is your shopping finished?

You could have asked "Has your shopping started?" and my answer would be the same ... um, no. And it sucks for me, since Hannukah's early this year.

Thanks, Lyn!

Mike, when IS Hanukkah? I don't even own a menorah yet.

Did some Amazon orders yesterday, and am planning to do a couple of William-Sonoma orders today.

We have a secret surprise gift that we are giving everyone in the family, and I'm working my tail off on getting it ready. I'm considering making up some extras and using them as prizes for a contest or something.

But done? Hell no. Near done? Not even.

I've been there, and it's great.

WG, there is no end to the gift certificate wonder to be had in Dallas. The pampering to be done there is in endless supply.

I have bought exactly one gift for Christmas, for my mother. I have pretty much pretended up until this point that the holidays were a long way off. My perception of time has been seriously wanky for a while.

While I'm at it, are there any other places (online) to buy Coach bags at discount prices?

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

I haven't started either. I think I'm going to do most of my shopping online this year. I seriously considered taking the laptop on my trip today so I could get some shopping done. Instead, I'm taking the large suitcase for the extra room. But I'll probably be selfish and do a bunch of shopping for myself - there's a Coldwater Creek store in Scottsdale!

I have no idea what to get my parents. And my father's birthday is on Christmas!

Mike, when IS Hanukkah?

Either Dec. 8 or Dec. 9. I think.

I've gotten everyone warm and fuzzy gifts this year. I think we all need a bit of comforting. So it's been expensive pillows, flannel sheets, fuzzy slippers. However, I still need to get something for my husband, who has enough sweaters. The really nice, snuggly robes are outrageously expensive and I know in my heart that he'd really rather have electronics for the $125. What do you think? Go with the theme and get him something snuggly or go for the electronic gizmo? My brother says "electronics all the way, baby!"

WG, Price Control has Coach bags, on sale, with free priority shipping.

I now at least HAVE a list. A semi-list and I'm ready to SHOP. But must wait for weekend. Torture.

I hate Christmas shopping. Christmas shopping is the reason why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

Having said that, this year, I'm shopping for my siblings, my parents, my grandmothers, my godmother, C, and my very most closest friends.

Ordinarily I love the Christmas shopping. I love, love buying people presents for any reason- I love giving almost as I love getting, which is a lot. This year I'm depressed over not having the money or the time to do something crafty- I'm getting a present for the family member I draw in our family secret Santa, and that's it.

I need some feedback on an idea I have for my sisters (there are four of them, ages 17, 18, 19, and 21). I usually get them the same thing, because it's easy, and also because they have similar tastes. IE, a few years ago, I bought them each a sterling canned drink holder monogrammed with their initials.

This year, I'm thinking of totally ripping off an idea I saw in InStyle: monogrammed tee-shirts. They showed these cute Banana- Republic looking girly tees with girly monograms on the upper chest area. Do y'all think this would work for my very girly, Chi-O, Vera Bradley-toting sisters?

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Haven't seen the InStyle, but - T, you know I'm all for it, because I am a monogram whore.

Besides, we all wore monogrammed clothing growing up - I think it's time for the Y generation to start.

PG, I had monogrammed knee socks. And what's more, I wish I still did.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

I'd put a monogram on anything, people. I love y'all.

Do it, T.

Come back, fab Dallas ladies. Anyone know anything about Spa International, House of Beauty, or Avalon Salon? Let me put it this way: is there any place I should definitely NOT send my prospective sister-in-law to?

Oh, and the gift for my daddy-in-law is probably coming from here.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2001

Well, I'm pretty much done. Which makes me said since I love buying gifts and wrapping them. Favorite part.

-- Anonymous, December 10, 2001

I have not started. Which could become problematic as we're going to ship the gifts to my family in Louisiana, and I'd kind of like for the gifts to get there by Christmas. So, I need to find something for my parents, my four sisters, my brother, and my grandmother.

-- Anonymous, December 10, 2001

WG, Avalon is in my old neighborhood and is very beautiful and wonderful. I walked there to get my haircut. Just you mentioning it makes me miss my old apartment and Snider Plaza so very badly.

Pottery Barn's latest catalog has sliver plated jewelry boxes that they monogram with a wonderful classic font. Quite lovely at $45 per. I ordered three. Luckily, the intended recipients will be nowhere near each other on Christmas morning to ridicule my un- originalness.

I ended up going with the Nordstrom spa, since SmokerSis-In-Law lives way the hell north in Frisco and we wanted something relatively close to her.

I just started my little brother's present -- a scarf. It's 300 rows long. I think I've done 16 so far.

-- Anonymous, December 10, 2001

Yow! 300 rows? But you can probably get it done. I started an afghan last night for a baby shower Friday, but I'm 'cheating' and knitting it on a machine.

I still have to order nuts for my brother and sister-in-law.

I bought some stocking stuffers. A trip to Zany Brainy will take care of my son but I still have no ideas for hubby. The only thing I can think of is halfsies on a DVD/home theater system. Bleah. I wish he golfed or something. It would make things so much easier. His current hobby is rebuilding his car. Anyone know where I can get a differential cover for an '83 Mustang SVO?

not a member of this chat group, but i was using yahoo.com to see if i could find a website for monogrammed tee-shirts and sweaters and this one came up. "T," did you ever order that InStyle shirt/sweater for your sister? if so, can you give me the website/phone number of the merchant? thanks all :) best wishes, christine

I don't know if there was a place that you could order it from - what I was going to do was hit the Banana Republic, buy a cute tee or a tank, and take it to a monogram place to have the monogramming done.
