George Harrison has died.

Any favorite Beatles stories?

This isn't much of a story, but I always think it's very cool that my mother saw the Beatles in concert a few years before I was born. I asked her if she screamed and cried like you see so many of the girls doing in old concert footage, and she said no, she sat (or stood) and listened as hard as she could, and just beamed, she was so happy to be there. That's SO my mom.

Paul is/was her favorite. I'm not sure how she felt about George on his own, but I know she loved that whole group for years and years. I have always been very fond of them myself - mostly because I really like a lot of their music, but also because I know my mom loved (loves) them.

Years later, my cousin Kerry was insane about "I've Got My Mind Set on You." Not George's finest moment, probably but sort of a fun moment just the same.

I love the music they made so much. George Harrison always struck me as the Dark and Mysterious One.

I remember the first time I heard "I'm Down," which is one of my favorite Beatles songs.

I don't really have a story either, but I saw this morning on the Today Show that George Harrison never believed that death was "the end." He said he didn't miss John Lennon because he felt John with him all the time. It's kind of neat to know he felt that way about dying (because he knew he was going to) and he had no fear of it happening.

It's sad that he's gone, but he made a fabulous contribution while he was here.

My boys Reckless Kelly are huge Beatles fans. They have a framed concert photo print that's at least 3' by 4' on their living room wall. The lead singer has a close-up image of a girl fan screaming (from the same concert photo) emblazoned on one of his guitars. It sounds like wishful thinking, I know - but if you see the image, it's not pathetic, but cool. Then, they photographed Willy's guitar and put that on a t-shirt.

Also, two of the guys wrote a song called "Mersey Beat," about George Harrison's musical career specifically. They never recorded it in studio (though I have it on a bootleg b/c I am a freak), but I'm sure they'll be playing it a lot more at shows now.

Unfortunately that's the extent of my personal Beatles experience, other than enjoying the music.

A Beatles song was the first I learned to sing all by myself. And yes, I did buy "1" last year. It's still in my CD changer. George was not my fave Beatle but that's like saying not my favorite chocolate, it's all good. George was quiet and thoughtful, too much like me. No attraction there. Give me those John and Paul boys, who were much more high-profile. I love the Beatles. Theirs is the music of my heart. It's a sad day. Hubby is in the musical instrument business and he said people have come in wanting to buy the kind of guitar George used. What's that about? People are freaky.

I am IN LOVE with "My Guitar Gently Weeps."

Such a pretty song, written by a beautiful man.

Suz

George didn't have a number for people to wear like Dale Earnhart (sp?) did.
