My two Pit Bulls have managed to get themselves coated in pine tree sap. (I think they were practicing their camouflage, as they have leaves and sticks stuck all over them...*g*) Given that they already have very short hair I really hate the idea of shaving them in winter.

Does anyone know of a safe way to remove it?

kersosne will cut it,, as will gasoline, ,, a product called GOO GONE,, find it in autoparts stores., how about buzz clippers,, kinda shave them in that area. They might get embarresed enough to not do that again :)

Haven't had a clue, but my guess is that a hand cleaner for degreasing would work? Maybe baby oil would help to slide the stuff off with an old brush? Maybe veggie oil? I got my hair stuck in one of those fly strips in the barn one time and had to use cream rinse to get the yucky stuff out. Not an easy job for me since my hair is way past my waist. I used a comb and it combed the goo out! Whatever you do it won't be easy. I don't envy you.

When I was a kid I lived in SW GA and discovered that baby oil works great on getting the sap off of your skin. Hopefully it'll work for dog fur, too. Good luck!

I second the goo gone. It works on absolutely everything. Easiest thing to do is list what it doesn't work on...I've yet to come across anything.

If you have horses,,, Laser sheen will work very well. Just spray it on the dog`s (or horse`s) coat and brush out. Good luck in what ever you use.

Avon's Skin So Soft. It'll help keep the ticks off too. I'd be careful with the gasoline and lanalin since it could burn the skin.

JANE....TRY "BUTTER" IT`S WHAT LOGGERS USE ON THEIR HANDS.THEY USE KEROSENE TO GET IT OFF THEIR TOOLS.BUT YOU COULD TRY IT BUT THE DOGS MIGHT LICK AT IT. IT MIGHT BE TOO STRONG A SMELL FOR THEIR NOSES.THEN WASH THE AREAS WITH SOAP. EXPECT MORE OF THE SAME LATER ON...
