We are looking for a Golden Puppy. We do not want to buy from a pet store. Does anyone know of a breeder in the S.E. KS, N.E. OK or S.W. MO area?

Belle, those areas are prime puppy mill territory -- who are often the suppliers for the pet stores. Please be sure to visit the breeder's facility and meet the pup's parents, or at least the mother.

Have you tried asking around at local rescue organizations? There are lots of Goldens that need homes. Here is a link to a state by state list, if you contact one near you, they may have puppies. http://www.golden-retriever.com/rescue3.html

I agree with Jen. Please, please, please contact one of the rescue organizations. They'll make sure you get a good, sound dog and you'll be a real hero for taking one in. They usually have dogs of all ages. You might want to consider a somewhat older-than-a-puppy dog. You'll often find you get one that's already housebroken.

I know you'll love having a Golden. They are the absolute sweetest breed imagineable. I love them. They are bright, affectionate and love to please.
